But more likely you've got some important app-specific\ntailwind customizations you'd like to use. For that reason, we expose the ability to\ncreate a **custom configured version** of the `tw` function object.\n\n```js\n// lib/tailwind.js\nimport { create } from 'twrnc';\n\n// create the customized version...\nconst tw = create(require(`../../tailwind.config.js`)); // <- your path may differ\n\n// ... and then this becomes the main function your app uses\nexport default tw;\n```\n\n...and in your component files import your own customized version of the function instead:\n\n```jsx\n// SomeComponent.js\nimport tw from './lib/tailwind';\n```\n\n> ⚠️ Make sure to use `module.exports = {}` instead of `export default {}` in your\n> `tailwind.config.js` file, as the latter is not supported.\n\n## Enabling Device-Context Prefixes\n\nTo enable prefixes that require runtime device data, like _dark mode_, and _screen size\nbreakpoints_, etc., you need to connect the `tw` function with a dynamic source of device\ncontext information. The library exports a React hook called `useDeviceContext` that takes\ncare of this for you. It should be included **one time**, at the _root of your component\nhierarchy,_ as shown below:\n\n```js\nimport tw from './lib/tailwind'; // or, if no custom config: `from 'twrnc'`\nimport { useDeviceContext } from 'twrnc';\n\nexport default function App() {\n  useDeviceContext(tw); // <- 👋\n  return (\n    <View style={tw`bg-white dark:bg-black`}>\n      <Text style={tw`text-black dark:text-white`}>Hello</Text>\n    </View>\n  );\n}\n```\n\n## Taking Control of Dark Mode\n\nBy default, if you use `useDeviceContext()` as outlined above, your app will respond to\nambient changes in the _device's color scheme_ (set in system preferences). If you'd\nprefer to **explicitly control** the color scheme of your app with some in-app mechanism,\nyou'll need to configure things slightly differently:\n\n```js\nimport { useDeviceContext, useAppColorScheme } from 'twrnc';\n\nexport default function App() {\n  // 1️⃣  opt OUT of listening to DEVICE color scheme events\n  useDeviceContext(tw, { withDeviceColorScheme: false });\n\n  // 2️⃣  use the `useAppColorScheme` hook to get a reference to the current color\n  // scheme, with some functions to modify it (triggering re-renders) when you need to\n  const [colorScheme, toggleColorScheme, setColorScheme] = useAppColorScheme(tw);\n\n  return (\n    {/* 3️⃣ use one of the setter functions, like `toggleColorScheme` in your app */}\n    <TouchableOpacity onPress={toggleColorScheme}>\n      <Text style={tw`text-black dark:text-white`}>Switch Color Scheme</Text>\n    </TouchableOpacity>\n  );\n}\n```\n\n`useAppColorScheme()` accepts an optional second argument of an _initial value for the\ncolor scheme._ If not supplied, it will be initialized to the current system setting at\nthe time the function is called.\n\n## Customizing Breakpoints\n\nYou can **customize the breakpoints** in the same way as a\n[tailwindcss web project](https://tailwindcss.com/docs/breakpoints), using\n`tailwind.config.js`. The defaults that ship with `tailwindcss` are geared towards the\nweb, so you likely want to set your own for device sizes you're interested in, like this:\n\n```js\n// tailwind.config.js\nmodule.exports = {\n  theme: {\n    screens: {\n      sm: '380px',\n      md: '420px',\n      lg: '680px',\n      // or maybe name them after devices for `tablet:flex-row`\n      tablet: '1024px',\n    },\n  },\n};\n```\n\n## Adding Custom Classes\n\nTo add custom utilities, use the\n[plugin method](https://tailwindcss.com/docs/adding-new-utilities#using-a-plugin)\ndescribed in the tailwind docs, instead of writing to a `.css` file. `twrnc` provides a\n`plugin()` function you can use, but it's also compatible with the stock `tailwindcss`\nfunction:\n\n```js\n// tailwind.config.js\nconst { plugin } = require('twrnc');\n\n// or, you can use tailwinds plugin function:\nconst plugin = require('tailwindcss/plugin');\n\nmodule.exports = {\n  plugins: [\n    plugin(({ addUtilities }) => {\n      addUtilities({\n        btn: {\n          padding: 3,\n          borderRadius: 10,\n          textTransform: `uppercase`,\n          backgroundColor: `#333`,\n        },\n        'resize-repeat': {\n          resizeMode: `repeat`,\n        },\n      });\n    }),\n  ],\n};\n```\n\nWil also allow you to supply a **string** of other utility classes (similar to `@apply`),\ninstead of using **CSS-in-JS** style objects:\n\n```js\nmodule.exports = {\n  plugins: [\n    plugin(({ addUtilities }) => {\n      addUtilities({\n        // 😎 similar to `@apply`\n        btn: `px-4 py-1 rounded-full bg-red-800 text-white`,\n        'body-text': `font-serif leading-relaxed tracking-wide text-gray-800`,\n      });\n    }),\n  ],\n};\n```\n\n## Matching Conditional Prefixes\n\n`twrnc` also exposes a `tw.prefixMatch(...prefixes: string[]) => boolean` function that\nallows you to test whether a given prefix (or combination of prefixes) would produce a\nstyle given the current device context. This can be useful when you need to pass some\nprimitive value to a component, and wish you could leverage `tw`'s knowledge of the\ncurrent device, or really anywhere you just need to do some logic based on the device\ncontext. This could also be accomplished by importing `Platform` or a combination of other\nRN hooks, but chances are you've already imported your `tw` function, and this saves you\nre-implementing all that logic on your own:\n\n```tsx\nconst SomeComponent = () => (\n  <View>\n    <Thumbnail imageSize={tw.prefixMatch(`portrait`) ? 60 : 90} />;\n    {tw.prefixMatch(`ios`, `dark`) ? <CustomIosDarkModeThing /> : <Thing />}\n  </View>\n);\n```\n\n## Box Shadows\n\nBox shadows [in CSS](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/box-shadow#syntax)\ndiffer substantially from [shadow in RN](https://reactnative.dev/docs/shadow-props), so\nthis library doesn't attempt to parse CSS box-shadow strings and translate them into RN\nstyle objects. But it also adds a sprinkling of RN-only utilities which don't map\nto web-css, including:\n\n- [low-level shadow utilities](#box-shadows)\n- [elevation](https://reactnative.dev/docs/view-style-props#elevation-android) (android\n  only), eg: `elevation-1`, `elevation-4`\n- `small-caps` -> `{fontVariant: 'small-caps'}`\n- number based font-weight utilities `font-100`, `font-400`, (100...900)\n- `direction-(inherit|ltr|rtl)`\n- `align-self: baseline;` via `self-baseline`\n- `include-font-padding` and `remove-font-padding` (android only: `includeFontPadding`)\n- image tint color control (`tint-{color}` e.g. `tint-red-200`)\n\n## JIT-Style Arbitrary Values\n\nMany of the arbitrary-style utilities made possible by Tailwind JIT are implemented in\n`twrnc`, including:\n\n- arbitrary colors: `bg-[#f0f]`, `text-[rgb(33,45,55)]`\n- negative values: `-mt-4`, `-tracking-[2px]`\n- shorthand color opacity: `text-red-200/75` (`red-200` at `75%` opacity)\n- merging color/opacity: `border-black border-opacity-75`\n- arbitrary opacity amounts: `opacity-73`\n- custom spacing: `mt-[4px]`, `-pb-[3px]`, `tracking-[2px]`\n- arbitrary fractional insets: `bottom-7/9`, `left-5/8`\n- arbitrary min/max width/height: `min-w-[40%]`, `max-h-3/8`, `w-[25vw]`, `h-[21px]`\n- arbitrary breakpoints: `min-w-[600px]:flex-row`, `max-h-[1200px]:p-4`\n\nNot every utility currently supports all variations of arbitrary values, so if you come\nacross one you feel is missing, open an issue or a PR.\n\n## Migrating from V2\n\n**Color renames**. In line with the\n[upgrade guide](https://tailwindcss.com/docs/upgrade-guide#removed-color-aliases),\ntailwind v3 has mapped `green`, `yellow`, and `purple` to their extended colors.\nAdditionally,\n[gray colors](https://tailwindcss.com/docs/upgrade-guide#renamed-gray-scales) were renamed\nin the extended colors to be more specific. Both of these can be resolved by following\ntailwind's upgrade guide and optionally re-aliasing the colors in your\n`tailwind.config.js`.\n\nOther than checking on any changes caused by color renames in tailwindcss, there are no\nbreaking changes in V3 of this library, no further changes should be necessary.\n\nNew v3 prefixes and classes are being added as we identify use cases. If you do have a\nfeature that would help your development, please\n[open an issue](https://github.com/jaredh159/tailwind-react-native-classnames/issues/new)\nand include any libraries / hooks that could help someone in the community put a PR\ntogether.\n\n## Migrating from V1\n\n**1.** During the rewrite, the package name on npm was changed to `twrnc`.
