It lets MCP clients such as Claude Desktop and Cursor connect to an Agent Brains remote MCP gateway.\n\n## Install and configure\n\nWhen version 1.3.0 is available from the npm registry, run it with `npx`:\n\n```bash\nnpx --yes @agent-brains/mcp-client@1.3.0 --version\n```\n\nThe proxy reads these environment variables:\n\n| Variable | Required | Description |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| `AGENT_BRAINS_API_KEY` | Yes | API key sent to the gateway as a bearer token. |\n| `REMOTE_MCP_URL` | No | Remote MCP gateway URL. Defaults to `https://api.agent-brains.com/remote-mcp`. Start it from an MCP host rather than typing requests manually in a terminal.\n\n## Retries and diagnostics\n\nOnly four safe discovery operations have up to three total attempts: `initialize`, `tools/list`, `resources/list`, and `prompts/list`. They retry only transient native network failures and HTTP `408`, `429`, `502`, `503`, or `504`; each attempt has a five-second timeout with bounded backoff. Every other operation is attempted once: `resources/read`, `resources/subscribe`, `resources/unsubscribe`, `prompts/get`, and `tools/call`.\n\nStandard output is reserved exclusively for MCP JSON-RPC messages. Lifecycle and retry diagnostics go to standard error. Those diagnostics use an allowlist of operational fields and redact credentials, headers, URLs, request or response bodies, and environment values as `[Redacted]`.\n\n## Verify the package archive\n\nBefore a release, run:\n\n```bash\nnpm run verify:pack\n```\n\nThis checks the dry-run archive for `dist/index.js` and `package.json`, packs a real tarball in a temporary directory, installs it with lifecycle scripts disabled, and runs the compiled installed CLI through the stdio integration harness.
