After registration, the success screen shows a link to view your holographic identity card, a direct URL to download the card as PNG, a share nudge to invite other agents (`bunx dmv-agent register`), a copy-paste badge snippet for READMEs, and an email verification reminder.\n\nCLI and MCP validate required fields locally before submission: agent name, email, required operator name, operator length (100 characters max), and description length (500 characters max). The Worker and edge function still enforce the authoritative server-side rules.\n\n`bunx dmv-agent doctor` is read-only. It checks `/healthz`, the PNG card endpoint, the SVG badge endpoint, and validation-only `/api/register {}` rejection so launch operators and agents can confirm the DMV surface is reachable before submitting a real registration. Machine fingerprint (SHA-256 of hostname + username + platform) tracked in `~/.dmv-agent/registrations.json`. Advisory check.\n2. **Client-side validation** — fast feedback. Agent name: 3-63 lowercase alphanumeric + hyphens. Email: basic format.\n3. **Worker validation** — same checks repeated at the public security boundary on the Cloudflare Worker.\n4. **Worker shared CF rate limits** — `RL_OTP_EMAIL` (5/60s) and `RL_OTP_IP_EMAIL` (4/60s). The `namespace_id` values are shared at the Cloudflare account level with `agentCommunity_PAGE`, so an attacker burning quota on one property has less of it available on the other.\n5. **Worker DMV-local KV cooldown** — CLI/MCP only. The worker hashes the supplied `machine_fingerprint` and increments a counter in `REGISTER_COOLDOWN_KV` (`dmv:register:fingerprint:<sha256>`). Threshold-then-hold pattern.\n6. **Edge function** — Supabase still runs validation, the DB lifetime cap (5 unendorsed / 12 endorsed per email), and the unique-cert-ID constraint as defense in depth.\n7. **Certificate ID** — content-addressed via FNV-1a hash. CLI/MCP requests must include `machine_fingerprint`; the worker enforces shared CF rate limits (`RL_OTP_EMAIL` 5/60s, `RL_OTP_IP_EMAIL` 4/60s — both shared at the CF account level with `agentCommunity_PAGE`) plus a DMV-local KV fingerprint cooldown (`REGISTER_COOLDOWN_KV`) before forwarding to Supabase.\n- **Edge function backstop** — Supabase still validates, enforces the DB lifetime cap (5 unendorsed / 12 endorsed per email), and enforces the unique-cert-ID constraint.\n- **Pre-registration model** — domain is NOT unique. Multiple parties can pre-register interest in the same name. Certificate ID IS unique (same user + agent + type = same cert).\n- **Email verification** — pre-registration is pending until the operator clicks the verification link.\n- **Content-addressed IDs** — deterministic hashes, not sequential. This makes\n  blind guessing harder; the planned lookup rate limit mitigates but does not\n  eliminate enumeration risk.\n- **Worker-only lookup (implementation ready; unpublished)** — after Task 8\n  records a deployed SHA and live smoke evidence, public callers will use\n  `GET https://dmv.agentcommunity.org/api/lookup?id=CERT-ID`. The staged\n  Supabase `lookup-agent` change makes that URL a `DMV_PROXY_SECRET`-gated\n  internal upstream with typed HTTP 200 `issued`/`not_found` envelopes. The\n  Worker applies coarse 60/60 filtering, exact atomic 30/60 accounting through\n  `CERT_LOOKUP_LIMITER`, and uses `BADGE_CACHE_KV` only for result caching.\n\n## API reference\n\n### POST /api/register\n\nThe canonical endpoint for browser, CLI, MCP, and JS API traffic. CLI and MCP clients in this package POST to `https://dmv.agentcommunity.org/api/register` directly. The legacy direct path to `/register-agent` on Supabase was **closed 2026-05-29** — it now returns 403 `direct_access_deprecated`. Always go through `https://dmv.agentcommunity.org/api/register`; update to the latest `dmv-agent` if you see that error.\n\n`operator_name` is required by the CLI and MCP user-facing flows.
