\n\n# Agillic Create Reducer\n\nThe `createReducer` helper makes your Redux life easier by providing an easy and maintainable way to construct reducers.\n\nMade with :heart: by Agillic\n\n## Installation\n\n```sh\nnpm install --save @agillic/create-reducer\n```\n\nOr if you're using `yarn`\n\n```sh\nyarn add @agillic/create-reducer\n```\n\n## Usage\n\nIn order to import createReducer use:\n\n```javascript\nimport createReducer from '@agillic/create-reducer'\n```\n\nOr for some good old nostalgia:\n\n```javascript\nconst createReducer = require('@agillic/create-reducer')\n```\n\n### NPM Scrips description\n\n- `build` - transpiles and builds project files and outputs them to the top-level `build` directory,\n- `build:watch` - as above but additionally also watches for changes in the files and rebuilds as needed,\n- `lint` - runs ESlint on all the files and outputs any warnings and errors to the console,\n- `test` - runs all the tests in watch mode,\n- `help` - shows description of the project's NPM scripts.\n\n## Syntax\n\n```javascript\nconst myReducer = createReducer({initialState, actions, [mode]})\n```\n\n### Parameters\n\n- `initialState` - an object with the initial state of your reducer,\n- `actions` - an object with actions available to the reducer, either as functions or objects,\n- `options` (_optional_), an object with optional properties:\n - `mode`, defaults to `replaceState`:\n - `replaceState` - replace the old state with the newly defined,\n - `setState` - to use the React-like behaviour, where the new state gets merged to the old one.\n\n### Return value\n\n`createReducer` returns a reducer function which can be directly used in `combineReducers` and other typical use cases. That's why it's so awesome!\n\nIf the reducer is called with an unidentified action it will return the initial state.\n\n## Examples\n\nConsider the following `initialState` for all the following examples:\n\n```javascript\nconst initialState = {\n stringProp: 'Nice Value',\n numberProp: 5,\n arrayProp: [1, 'two', 3],\n objectProp: {\n stringProp: 'Fancy Value'\n },\n boolProp: false,\n nullProp: null\n}\n```\n\n### Typical use case\n\n```javascript\nconst myReducer = createReducer(\n initialState,\n {\n simpleAction: () => ({boolProp: true}),\n complexAction: ({action: {newNumber, newString}}) => ({\n numberProp: newNumber,\n objectProp: {\n stringProp: newString\n }\n })\n },\n options: {\n mode: 'setState'\n }\n)\n```\n\nIn the above example, the actions are functions which specify how should the state be transformed. Note that the actions names are labels which should be passed as `type` property in action creators. The action arguments names are up to the developer to decide.\n\n### Complex use case\n\nYou are not bound to the use of just one `mode` for the whole reducer. In order to mix the two, you can specify actions as objects with either `replaceState` or `setState` properties on them, which will override the `mode` set in `options` argument.\n\n```javascript\nconst myReducer = createReducer(\n initialState,\n {\n simpleAction: () => ({boolProp: true}),\n specialAction: {\n replaceState: ({action: {newNumber, newString}}) => ({\n stringProp: newString,\n numberProp: newNumber\n })\n }\n },\n options: {\n mode: 'setState'\n }\n)\n```\n\nIn the above example `simpleAction` will be applied in `setState` mode as it's the one specified in `options` for the whole reducer. However, `specialAction` will be applied in `replaceState` mode, since it has not been defined as a function but rather as an object with `replaceState` property defining the state transformation.\n\n### Using previous state\n\nIt is also possible to use previous state in the reducer.\n\n```javascript\nconst myReducer = createReducer(\n initialState,\n {\n complexActionWithState: ({action: {newString}, state: {objectProp}}) => ({\n objectProp: {\n ...objectProp,\n someStringProp: newString\n }\n })\n },\n options: {\n mode: 'setState'\n }\n)\n```\n\n## Scripts\n\n- `npm run build:watch` will transpile all the sources on file save,\n- `npm test` will run tests in watch mode,\n- `npm run test:coverage` will run tests and report coverage statistics,\n- `npm run lint` will lint the source files.\n","readmeFilename":"README.MD","contributors":[{"name":"Krzysztof Czurylo","email":"krzysztof.czurylo@agillic.com"}],"license":"GPL-3.0-only"}
