When your assistant is thinking,\nreplying, waiting for your decision, or finishing a task, Buddy shows a matching\nexpression on its display. It makes the device feel like part of the workflow\ninstead of just another object on the desk.\n\n## Why Use It\n\nAI Desktop Buddy helps you understand what your AI assistant is doing without\nconstantly switching windows:\n\n- when the assistant starts thinking, Buddy changes its face;\n- when the assistant is working, Buddy looks busy;\n- when your attention is needed, Buddy makes that visible;\n- when the task is done, Buddy returns to a calm state;\n- after successful progress, Buddy may celebrate with confetti.\n\nThe package does not replace your AI tool and does not change its answers. It\nonly adds clear visual feedback on your AI Appliances device.\n\n## What It Looks Like\n\nExample situations:\n\n| On your computer | On AI Desktop Buddy |\n| --- | --- |\n| You send a prompt to the assistant | Buddy shows a focused expression |\n| The assistant reads files or runs a command | Buddy looks busy |\n| The assistant waits for your approval | Buddy asks for attention |\n| The assistant finishes replying | Buddy returns to normal |\n| Several steps complete successfully | Buddy may show a celebration |\n\n## Quick Start\n\nMake sure AI Desktop Buddy is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network\nas your computer.\n\n```bash\nnpx @ai-appliances/hooks setup\n```\n\nDuring setup, the package will:\n\n1. find your device on the local network;\n2. ask you to confirm pairing with a PIN shown on Buddy's display;\n3. save the local configuration on your computer;\n4. install hooks for a supported AI tool.\n\nRestart your AI tool after setup so the new reactions can take effect.\n\n## Supported Tools\n\nAutomatic setup is currently available for:\n\n- Claude Code\n\nThe setup flow also shows future options:\n\n- OpenAI Codex - coming soon;\n- OpenCode - coming soon.\n\n## Command Examples\n\nSet up pairing and hooks:\n\n```bash\nnpx @ai-appliances/hooks setup\n```\n\nCheck whether your computer can reach the device:\n\n```bash\nnpx @ai-appliances/hooks status\n```\n\nReset pairing and remove local settings:\n\n```bash\nnpx @ai-appliances/hooks reset\n```\n\n## If The Device Is Not Found\n\nTry the following:\n\n1. make sure AI Desktop Buddy is powered on;\n2. make sure your computer and Buddy are on the same Wi-Fi network;\n3. run setup again;\n4. if automatic discovery does not work, enter the device IP address manually.\n\n## Secure Pairing\n\nOn first connection, AI Desktop Buddy shows a PIN on its display. This prevents\nsomeone else on your network from pairing with the device by accident.\n\nIf you do not want to approve a new pairing request, press the microphone button\non the device to cancel it.\n\n## What This Package Does\n\n- connects AI Desktop Buddy to an AI tool on your computer;\n- sends simple states such as \"thinking\", \"replying\", \"waiting\", and \"ready\";\n- enables visual reactions on the device display;\n- stores local configuration in `~/.ai-appliances/config.json`.\n\n## What This Package Does Not Do\n\n- it does not read your conversations with the assistant;\n- it does not change the assistant's answers;\n- it does not control the internal behavior of the speaker;\n- it does not require a cloud account for local device communication.\n\n## Requirements\n\n- Node.js 18 or newer;\n- AI Desktop Buddy by AI Appliances;\n- your computer and device on the same local network.\n\n## License\n\nMIT\n","readmeFilename":"README.md","_rev":"1-b68482ceac15a0adf41baa5e585465d7"}
