persistent memory for AI coding agents. One binary over one SQLite\ndatabase — decisions, bug fixes and conventions saved as they happen, handed\nback when they are relevant.\n\nThe package is scoped and the command is not: `npx @asanabrial/leteo` and, for\na global install, `leteo`. npm refuses the bare name — it reads `leteo` as too\nclose to `level`, `leven` and `metro` — and a scope is what the MCP servers\nthat ship this way use anyway.\n\nFull documentation lives at\n[github.com/asanabrial/leteo](https://github.com/asanabrial/leteo).\n\n## What this package is\n\nA way to run Leteo without installing anything first. It downloads the release\nbinary for your platform, checks it against the published `SHA256SUMS`, and\nhands every argument to it.\n\nIn an MCP client's configuration:\n\n```json\n{\n  \"mcpServers\": {\n    \"leteo\": {\n      \"command\": \"npx\",\n      \"args\": [\"-y\", \"@asanabrial/leteo\", \"mcp\"]\n    }\n  }\n}\n```\n\nOr straight from a terminal:\n\n```sh\nnpx @asanabrial/leteo tui\nnpx @asanabrial/leteo search \"connection pool\"\n```\n\nThe npm version *is* the release tag, so pinning a version here pins the binary\nit fetches, and nothing else.\n\n## What this package is not\n\nIt is not a JavaScript reimplementation, and it is not the recommended install.\nLeteo is a Rust binary; the shortest path to it is still\n\n```sh\ncurl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/asanabrial/leteo/main/scripts/install.sh | sh\n```\n\nwhich puts `leteo` on your `PATH` once, or `cargo install leteo`. This package\nexists because most MCP documentation assumes `npx`, and pasting three lines\ninto a JSON file should not require reading an install script first.\n\nIt is also not the way to run `leteo setup`, and that command now refuses when\nit notices. `setup` writes the path of the running binary into your agent's\nconfiguration, and the binary this package downloads lives inside npm's cache —\na path `npm cache clean` deletes and the next version replaces. The\nconfiguration would keep working until it suddenly did not, and the hooks would\nfail without saying so. The three lines above have no such problem: `npx` is on\nyour `PATH` and resolves the package itself, every time.\n\nFive platforms have prebuilt binaries: Linux, macOS and Windows on x86-64, and\nLinux and macOS on arm64. Anywhere else, `cargo install leteo` builds it.\n\n## Environment\n\n- `LETEO_VERSION` — fetch a release tag other than this package's version.\n- `LETEO_BASE_URL` — download from somewhere other than GitHub releases, for a\n  mirror serving the same layout.\n\nBoth belong to this wrapper, not to the binary, and behave as they do in\n`install.sh`.\n\nThe checksum is always verified and there is no flag to skip it: this runs\nunattended inside an agent, which is exactly where nobody would notice a\nsubstituted archive.\n\n## License\n\nMIT.
