projects.\n\nSkillex helps agents load the right guidance for the code they are working on without dumping an entire repo's docs into context. It indexes repo skills, package skills, packs, scope rules, and installed package versions, then answers targeted queries in microseconds.\n\n## What Skillex does\n\n- Resolves the right skills for a file path, package, topic, or tag\n- Handles monorepos and multiple installed versions of the same package\n- Separates public consumer skills from private maintainer skills\n- Activates pack-shipped skills from project files, dependencies, and detectors\n- Lets packages and Go modules ship `skillex/pack.yaml` with their code\n- Exposes the index through both MCP and a CLI fallback\n- Can experimentally discover and invoke trusted downstream MCP capabilities\n  without registering them individually with the host\n- Generates `AGENTS.md` instructions for agents that cannot use MCP directly\n\n## Recommended install\n\nFor cross-ecosystem use, install Skillex as a global platform utility. See the\nmain project README for the universal installer.\n\n## Node dev dependency\n\nUse this npm package when a Node.js project wants Skillex pinned as local dev\ntooling:\n\n```bash\nnpm install --save-dev @atheory-ai/skillex\n# or\npnpm add -D @atheory-ai/skillex\n# or\nyarn add -D @atheory-ai/skillex\n```\n\nThe wrapper package installs the correct native binary for your platform through\nnpm `optionalDependencies`.\n\n## Experimental downstream MCP broker\n\nSkillex 0.9.0 includes an explicitly opt-in downstream MCP capability broker.\nThe host registers only Skillex; enabled projects can discover contextual MCP\ncapabilities and have Skillex invoke the selected trusted server lazily. Existing\nskills-only projects are unchanged.\n\nThis broker and its authentication integrations are experimental. The protocol\nflows have automated conformance coverage, but interoperability is not certified\nfor every MCP server, identity provider, or enterprise deployment. Narrow broad results before reading a\nselected skill or section. `--format content` is retained for backward compatibility,\nbut is not the recommended agent workflow.\n\n## Example workflow\n\n1. Add repo skills in `skills/` and configure scopes in `skillex.json`\n2. Run `skillex refresh` after changing skills, configuration, or installed dependencies\n3. Let your agent query, narrow, and read only the skills relevant to its current task\n\n## Packs\n\nPacks are Skillex's ecosystem extension mechanism. Go modules are supported through `go.mod`, local\n`replace`, and `vendor` module roots; Skillex does not download dependencies\nduring refresh or query.\n\n## Why this exists\n\nWithout scoped skill retrieval, agents either get too little context or far too much of it.
