AutoQAI\n\n**Let your AI coding agent test in _your_ real, logged-in browser tab.**\n\nAutoQAI connects MCP-capable AI CLI agents — Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub\nCopilot, Kiro, and others — to the browser tab you already have open and\nsigned in. Instead of spinning up a fresh, unauthenticated Selenium or\nPlaywright session that has no idea who you are, your agent drives **your**\nreal page: clicking, typing, filling forms, taking screenshots, reading the\nDOM, and checking the console and network.\n\nCookies, SSO, MFA, tenant, and feature flags stay exactly as they are, because\nnothing new is launched. When the agent says \"open the dashboard and click\nSave\", it runs inside the same browser you are testing with — same session,\nsame tenant, same flags.\n\n> 📖 **Full setup guide, supported agents, and documentation:**\n> https://utilsware.com/products/autoqai\n\n---\n\n## ⚠️ This package needs the browser extension\n\nAutoQAI has two halves. This npm package is the **MCP server**; it does nothing\nwithout the companion **browser extension**:\n\n1. **MCP server (this package)** — your AI agent talks to it.\n2. **Browser extension** — drives your tab.\n   👉 Install it from **https://utilsware.com/products/autoqai**\n\nThe agent talks to the MCP server, the server talks to the extension over a\n**local-only (loopback `127.0.0.1`) WebSocket**, and the extension drives your\ntab. Without both installed and paired, there is nothing to connect to.\n\n---\n\n## What your agent can do in your tab\n\n- **Interact** — click, fill, type, press keys, select options, hover, drag,\n  and upload files.\n- **Observe** — read console logs, network activity, and page issues to\n  diagnose real bugs.\n- **Capture** — screenshots of the full page or specific elements/regions.\n- **Compare** — old vs new, before vs after, tab vs tab: tables, forms, charts,\n  sections, and styles.\n- **Verify** — assert text, values, visibility, counts, styles, network\n  success, and \"no console errors\".\n- **Work across multiple tabs** in parallel, each with a short label (e.g.\n  `main`, `qa-tenant`, `mobile`).\n\nA typical use: ask your agent to _reproduce a bug in your staging environment,\nfix the code, and confirm the fix_ — all inside the session you are already\nlogged in to.\n\n---\n\n## Who it's for\n\n- **Developers** who want their AI agent to reproduce and fix bugs inside their\n  own browser session.\n- **QA engineers** who want live console/network observability and\n  screenshot-based bug capture with a one-click \"ask the agent to fix this\".\n- **Anyone** who has hit the wall of _\"the AI's test browser isn't logged in to\n  my staging environment.\"_\n\n---\n\n## Installation\n\n### 1. Install the MCP server (this package)\n\n```bash\nnpm install -g @autoqai/mcp\n```\n\nRequires **Node.js 22+**. This adds the `autoqai` command to your PATH.\n\n> **On an older extension?** Web Store reviews can take a couple of\n> days, so a brand-new MCP release on npm may briefly run ahead of the\n> extension version available in the store. If the two halves disagree,\n> install the MCP version that matches the extension you currently have until\n> the new extension is approved — for example:\n>\n> ```bash\n> npm install -g @autoqai/mcp@0.2.0\n> ```\n>\n> Once Chrome ships the new extension, switch back to the latest with\n> `npm install -g @autoqai/mcp` (or `@latest`).\n\n### 2. Install the browser extension\n\nGet it from **https://utilsware.com/products/autoqai** and pin it.\n\n### 3. Register AutoQAI with your AI agent\n\nOn a clean machine, **installing the package registers AutoQAI for you** — it\nwrites the MCP registration into every supported agent at user scope the first\ntime it's installed. It only runs when no AutoQAI registration exists yet, so\nupdating an existing install (or one where you removed a client on purpose)\nleaves your configuration untouched.\n\nIf the automatic step **didn't run** — because you already had AutoQAI\nconfigured, or the install happened in CI — register it yourself with one\ncommand that covers every supported agent it finds installed:\n\n```bash\nautoqai init\n```\n\nThen **restart your AI agent** so it picks up the new server. To register a\nsingle agent, add `--client <name>` — one of `claude-code`, `cursor`,\n`vscode`, `copilot`, `kiro`, or `visualstudio` (for example\n`--client claude-code`).\n\n**Using GitHub Copilot?** GitHub Copilot's agent mode in VS Code reads VS\nCode's `mcp.json`, so `--client copilot` and `--client vscode` register the\nsame file — and a plain `autoqai init` already covers it. After registering,\nswitch Copilot Chat to **Agent** mode, open the Tools picker, and make sure\n**autoqai** is enabled.\n\n**Using a JetBrains IDE** (IntelliJ, PyCharm, Rider, WebStorm)? JetBrains AI\nAssistant configures MCP servers from its Settings UI rather than a file on\ndisk, so there's no `init` command for it. Open **Settings → Tools → AI\nAssistant → Model Context Protocol (MCP)**, add a new stdio server named\n`autoqai` with the command `autoqai`, and apply (or use **Import from Claude**).\nRequires AI Assistant with MCP support (IDE 2025.1+).\n\n<details>\n<summary>Prefer manual registration?</summary>\n\n**Claude Code** — `~/.claude.json`:\n\n```jsonc\n{\n    \"mcpServers\": {\n        \"autoqai\": { \"command\": \"autoqai\" },\n    },\n}\n```\n\n**VS Code / GitHub Copilot** — `<user-profile>/Code/User/mcp.json`:\n\n```jsonc\n{\n    \"servers\": {\n        \"autoqai\": { \"type\": \"stdio\", \"command\": \"autoqai\" },\n    },\n}\n```\n\n**Visual Studio** — `~/.mcp.json` (or `./.mcp.json` next to your solution):\n\n```jsonc\n{\n    \"servers\": {\n        \"autoqai\": { \"type\": \"stdio\", \"command\": \"autoqai\" },\n    },\n}\n```\n\n</details>\n\n---\n\n## Getting started\n\n1. **Start AutoQAI in your project.** Your AI agent runs the AutoQAI server\n   from your project directory. It prints a **host**, a **port**, and a short\n   **pairing token**.\n\n2. **Pair the extension.** Open the extension popup. Your running project\n   appears under **Discovered projects** with its host and port already filled\n   in — click it and paste the **pairing token** once (the popover remembers it\n   afterwards). If it isn't listed, click **Rescan**, or choose **Add a project\n   manually** and enter the host (`127.0.0.1`), port, and token, then click\n   **Pair & connect**.\n\n3. **Bind a tab.** Choose the tab you want the agent to control, give it a\n   short label (e.g. `main`), and attach. Chrome shows its standard _\"is being\n   debugged\"_ banner — leave it visible while the agent works. While the agent\n   is driving a bound tab, any new tab an action opens (a link in a new tab, a\n   popup, an OAuth screen) is bound to the same project automatically, so the\n   agent keeps going without you binding it by hand.\n\n4. **Ask your agent to test.** Tell it to test a flow, reproduce a bug, or\n   compare two screens. It drives your real tab and reports findings back. You\n   never call any low-level commands yourself.\n\n---\n\n## CLI reference\n\n| Command / option  | Description                                                               |\n| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |\n| `autoqai`         | Start the MCP server for the current project directory.                   |\n| `autoqai init`    | Register AutoQAI with supported AI agents (`--client <name>` for one).    |\n| `--port <n>`      | Pin the server port (default `7820`; auto-picks a nearby port if in use). |\n| `--config <path>` | Use a specific config path.                                               |\n| `autoqai --help`  | Show all options.                                                         |\n\n---\n\n## Privacy & security\n\n- **Local-only.** The extension accepts connections only from `127.0.0.1`\n  (loopback). Non-local connections are refused — no LAN exposure.\n- **Per-project pairing token** generated by the server and entered once.\n- **Debugger attaches only after you bind a tab**, and Chrome's _\"is being\n  debugged\"_ banner stays visible the whole time.\n- **No credentials, OAuth tokens, or cookies** are stored or transmitted by the\n  extension.\n- **No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party SDKs.** Page content (DOM,\n  screenshots, logs) only leaves your browser when the agent _you_ started\n  explicitly requests it.\n- The agent acts **inside your existing session** — it never launches a separate\n  browser or asks for your passwords.\n\n---\n\n## Troubleshooting\n\n- **Pairing fails** → make sure the extension is connecting to `127.0.0.1`\n  (loopback only).\n- **`autoqai` not found after global install** → restart your terminal so the\n  npm global bin is on your PATH (check with `npm config get prefix`).\n- **Chrome refuses to attach** → bind a regular `http(s)` tab; Chrome blocks\n  attaching to privileged pages (e.g. `chrome://`, the Web Store).\n\n---\n\n## Links\n\n- 📖 **Documentation & extension download:** https://utilsware.com/products/autoqai/docs\n- 📄 **License:** https://utilsware.com/products/autoqai/license\n\n## License\n\nSee the [license terms](https://utilsware.com/products/autoqai/license).\n","readmeFilename":"README.md"}
