Nothing else.\n\n## Requirements\n\n- Node.js 18 or newer\n- Zero dependencies\n- An agent that loads skills from `SKILL.md` (opencode, Claude Code, Cursor)\n\n## Quickstart\n\nGet from zero to a working skill in 3 steps (~2 minutes):\n\n1. Install it into the current project:\n\n   ```sh\n   npx the-builder install\n   ```\n\n2. Check the install is intact:\n\n   ```sh\n   npx the-builder verify\n   ```\n\n   From a clone use `node bin/install.js verify` instead.\n   You should see `Verified the-builder: SKILL.md + 8 rules`.\n\n3. Prompt your agent with a trigger phrase:\n\n   > debug this production issue: users get logged out every 15 minutes\n\n   The agent picks up the skill and follows `rules/03-debug.md`.\n\n## Install\n\n### From npm (after `npm publish`)\n\nProject-local (current directory only):\n\n```sh\nnpx the-builder install\n```\n\nFor your user account (all projects):\n\n```sh\nnpx the-builder install --global\n```\n\nWhere files land:\n\n| Scope   | opencode path                         | Claude Code path                  |\n| ------- | ------------------------------------- | --------------------------------- |\n| Local   | `.opencode/skills/the-builder/`       | `.claude/skills/the-builder/`     |\n| Global  | `~/.config/opencode/skills/the-builder/` | `~/.claude/skills/the-builder/` |\n\n### Before `npm publish` (from a clone)\n\n```sh\ngit clone https://github.com/Bappaditya-kuilya/THE-builder\ncd THE-builder\nnode bin/install.js install\n```\n\nGlobal pre-publish install:\n\n```sh\nnode bin/install.js install --global\n```\n\n### Verify\n\n```sh\nnode bin/install.js verify\n```\n\nChecks that `SKILL.md` plus all 8 rule files are present. Exit code 0 means intact, 1 means broken. `npm test` runs the same check.\n\n### Update\n\nRe-run the install command. It wipes the old skill directory first, so stale rule files from a previous version never linger:\n\n```sh\nnpx the-builder install\n```\n\n### Uninstall\n\nThere is no uninstall command. Delete the directories:\n\n```sh\nrm -rf .opencode/skills/the-builder .claude/skills/the-builder\n```\n\nGlobal:\n\n```sh\nrm -rf ~/.config/opencode/skills/the-builder ~/.claude/skills/the-builder\n```\n\n## How to use it\n\nTalk to your agent normally. When your prompt contains a trigger phrase, the skill loads. Each mode below shows its trigger, what the agent hands back, and one example prompt you can paste.\n\n### 1. Build app — \"build a complete app\", \"build from scratch\"\n\nYou get: architecture diagram (text boxes and arrows), file structure, DB schema as real SQL, API endpoints with request/response shapes, UI layout, full working code.\n\n> build a complete app: a bookmark manager with tags, search, and import from HTML\n\n### 2. Refactor — \"unfamiliar codebase\", \"refactor this\"\n\nYou get: architecture summary, problem list ranked by impact, refactoring plan, cleaned code. Behavior stays identical unless the agent calls out an exception.\n\n> refactor this: map the auth flow first, then split the 900-line handler\n\n### 3. Debug — \"debug\", \"root cause\", \"production issue\"\n\nYou get: what the code does, what is broken, why it breaks, edge cases missed, fixed production code. If logs or repro steps are missing, the agent says exactly what it needs before guessing.\n\n> debug this production issue: checkout fails with 500 when a coupon is applied twice\n\n### 4. System design — \"design a scalable system\"\n\nYou get: system architecture, component breakdown, data flow, API design, DB schema, caching layer with invalidation rules, working code for one end-to-end happy path.\n\n> design a scalable system for 100k daily readers and 200 writers with instant search\n\n### 5. Performance — \"optimize for performance\"\n\nYou get: issue list with file and line for each bottleneck, optimization strategy, optimized code. Algorithmic waste (N+1 queries, O(n²) scans, duplicate work) gets fixed before renders and I/O. No invented percentages.\n\n> optimize for performance: the dashboard takes 9 seconds to load\n\n### 6. Clean architecture — \"clean architecture\", \"separation of concerns\"\n\nYou get: new folder structure with the fewest folders that enforce the split, a short explanation of what moved and why, refactored code. Behavior stays identical.\n\n> rebuild this with clean architecture: handlers, SQL, and email sending are tangled\n\n### 7. Multi-agent — \"4 agents\", \"architect engineer reviewer optimizer\"\n\nYou get all four sections in order: architect plan (no code), engineer working code, reviewer QA notes (real defects only, no rewrite), optimizer final version (fixes reviewer flags only).\n\n> act as 4 agents and build rate limiting for the API\n\n### 8. UI components — \"production UI\", \"accessible reusable components\"\n\nYou get: component structure, explicit props API with defaults, full code, one usage example per state (loading, error, empty). Responsive and keyboard accessible by default, no new dependency for what the platform covers.\n\n> build production UI components: a data table with sorting, selection, and an empty state\n\n## CLI reference\n\n```\nnpx the-builder install [--global]   install the skill (alias: -g)\nnode bin/install.js verify           self-check: SKILL.md + 8 rules present\nnode bin/install.js help             print usage (-h and --help work too)\n```\n\nExit codes: 0 success, 1 any failure (unknown command, missing source, failed copy, failed verify). Errors print as one line: `the-builder: <reason>`.\n\n## How agents pick it up\n\n1. `skills/the-builder/SKILL.md` carries all 8 trigger phrases in its frontmatter `description`, so the agent loads the skill when your prompt matches.\n2. The decision ladder runs first: skip speculative work, reuse code that exists, prefer stdlib and installed dependencies, then write the smallest code that runs.\n3. The agent reads only the one matched file in `rules/`. Modes never blend unless you ask.\n4. Shared guardrails hold for every mode: inspect before writing, state stack in one line, keep validation on trust boundaries, ship code that runs (no stubs, no invented APIs), keep refactors behavior-identical, name real bottlenecks without made-up numbers, draw diagrams as boxes and arrows.\n\n## Repo layout\n\n```text\nTHE-builder/\n  bin/install.js                          installer + verify (Node stdlib only)\n  package.json                            bin entry, files list, test script\n  skills/the-builder/SKILL.md             router: triggers, ladder, guardrails\n  skills/the-builder/rules/01-build-app.md\n  skills/the-builder/rules/02-refactor.md\n  skills/the-builder/rules/03-debug.md\n  skills/the-builder/rules/04-system-design.md\n  skills/the-builder/rules/05-performance.md\n  skills/the-builder/rules/06-clean-architecture.md\n  skills/the-builder/rules/07-multi-agent.md\n  skills/the-builder/rules/08-ui-components.md\n```\n\n## Making it a skill (publish checklist)\n\nThe repo is already shaped as a skill package. Before `npm publish`, confirm each item:\n\n1. `SKILL.md` frontmatter has `name` and `description`, and the description holds the trigger phrases. Check: `node bin/install.js verify`.\n2. `package.json` `files` includes `bin` and `skills`, and `bin` points at `bin/install.js`. Check: `npm pack --dry-run` lists 13 files (LICENSE, README, installer, manifest, `SKILL.md`, 8 rules).\n3. Installer writes to both opencode and Claude paths, local and global. Check: install into an empty temp dir, reinstall with a planted stale file, confirm the stale file is gone.\n4. No dependencies. Check: `package.json` has no `dependencies` key.\n5. Version bumped. `npm version patch|minor|major`, then `npm publish`.\n\n## Troubleshooting\n\n| Symptom | Fix |\n| ------- | --- |\n| `Source skill not found` | Run the command from the repo root (or via `npx`), so `skills/the-builder` sits next to `bin/` |\n| Old rule file still installed after update | Re-run install; it deletes the destination first. If you copied files by hand, delete the skill dir and reinstall |\n| `verify` reports wrong rule count | You need exactly the 8 files in `skills/the-builder/rules/`. Restore deleted ones from git: `git checkout -- skills/` |\n| Agent ignores the skill | Your prompt must contain a trigger phrase (see mode guide). Check the skill dir exists where your agent reads skills |\n\n## License\n\nMIT. See `LICENSE` in the repo.\n","readmeFilename":"README.md"}
