Any agent host that speaks [MCP](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) can attach it: Cursor, Grok Bot, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, and anything else that runs a stdio server.\n\nYour agent plans the work; Beck keeps the plan. The agent records the approved plan as epics and tasks, resumes from it in later sessions, logs progress with test checks, and asks decisions with a default while it keeps going. Humans follow the run on the Now page and review. In Claude Code, the [Beck plugin](https://github.com/beckhq/beck-plugin) wires this server up with hooks.\n\nThe server is the tools. Policy lives in [`https://beck.bot/skill.md`](https://beck.bot/skill.md). The agent reads the live skill, binds the repo to one workspace, and records its plans on the same backlog humans use.\n\nDo not run `npx` from this package directory in the monorepo — npm will pick the local package, which has no linked bin. Run it from any other directory, or `node dist/index.js` while developing.\n\n## Connect a host\n\nThe command and env vars are the contract. Or paste the generic block into `~/.cursor/mcp.json`.\n\n**Grok Bot** — same plugin as Cursor. Each bot in a channel should use its own token named after itself (`Coder`, `Reviewer`). A coordinator token can mint those via `create_api_token`. Restart, then `/mcp`.\n\n**Claude Desktop / Windsurf / others** — same generic block in that host’s MCP config file. If the schema uses `servers` instead of `mcpServers`, keep `command`, `args`, and `env` as above.\n\n## After it is connected\n\nAgents should read `https://beck.bot/llms.txt` and `https://beck.bot/skill.md` first (also MCP resources `beck://skill.md` and `beck://llms.txt`). Those are canonical; a bundled copy goes stale.\n\nThen:\n\n1. **Bind** — `whoami` shows whether this repo is bound. If not, use the workspace the human named (`bind_workspace`), or `list_workspaces` and ask. `create_workspace` only if they asked.\n2. **Resume** — `resume` at session start and after compaction: in progress, waiting for review, next up, plan documents.\n3. **Record** — when the human approves a plan with 3 or more tasks, `record_plan` once: the plan markdown, then epics with tasks and acceptance criteria. You do the breakdown.\n4. **Execute** — start → progress (with `checks` when you ran tests) → finish with a progress note. `create_tasks` when scope grows. `accept_task` / `reject_task` follow the job’s autonomy mode (`human_review` / `peer_review` / `full`).\n5. **Ask** — `ask_decision` when a choice needs the human; keep going on the default. Answers come back on start, finish and recommend.\n6. **Documents and Plan it** — co-write specs and research when asked. `plan_it` only when a human asks for Beck's AI breakdown; `import_suggested_tasks` when asked or when the autonomy mode allows.\n7. **Multi-bot** — coordinator `create_api_token` named for each bot; each bot uses only its token.\n\nDefaults live in `/skill.md`, not in access control. The human’s prompt overrides those defaults. The tools always exist.\n\n## Tools\n\n**The loop**\n- **resume** — Brief for picking work back up: in progress, waiting for review, next up, open epics, plan documents\n- **record_plan** — Record an approved plan in one call: the plan document under `plans/`, then epics and tasks in order\n- **create_epic** / **create_tasks** — Add an epic, or tasks when scope grows mid-run\n- **bind_workspace** — Bind a workspace to this git repo so later calls can omit `workspaceId`\n\n**Identity & workspaces**\n- **whoami** — Token identity and this repo's binding\n- **list_workspaces** — Discover workspaces this token can see (org-scoped; not a default)\n- **create_workspace** — Create a workspace (default: only if the human asked)\n\n**Documents**\n- **list_documents** / **read_document** / **create_document** / **write_document** — Planning corpus (etag required on write)\n- **delete_document** / **list_document_versions** / **restore_document** — Etag-guarded delete and version restore\n\n**Epics & Plan it**\n- **list_epics** / **get_epic** — Spec, last-plan provenance, tasks, suggested breakdown\n- **plan_it** — For people planning without an agent: snapshot docs into epics, with Beck's AI breakdown if asked\n- **import_suggested_tasks** — Import Plan it suggestions to backlog or icebox\n- **link_epic_github** / **get_epic_github** — Manual branch / PR on an epic\n\n**Tasks**\n- **list_tasks** — Filter by status, epic, assignee, or icebox\n- **get_task** / **get_task_context** — Details plus comments, spec, related work\n- **recommend_task** — What to work on next\n- **start_task** / **finish_task** — Claim and submit for review. `finish_task` takes an optional `progress` note (`whatAttempted`, `whatSucceeded`, `whatFailed`, `questions`) that is logged in the same step\n- **accept_task** / **reject_task** — Complete or send back (follow autonomy mode)\n- **update_task** — Title, type, points, tags, epic, description, blocked, criteria, files\n- **set_relevant_files** — Files that matter for the next session\n- **add_comment** / **list_comments**\n- **log_progress** / **list_progress** — Structured work logs, with optional `checks` (`{ passed, total, label? }`, e.g. 42/42 vitest)\n\n**Decisions**\n- **ask_decision** — Record a question with the default you are going with; returns right away. `costly` flags hard-to-undo defaults; `blocking` blocks the affected tasks until answered\n- **list_decisions** — Open decisions (costly first), then answered ones\n- **answer_decision** — Answer or keep the default (bots only when the autonomy mode allows)\n- Answers to your decisions come back on `start_task`, `finish_task` and `recommend_task`; `resume` lists the open ones\n\n**Bot tokens**\n- **list_api_tokens** / **create_api_token** / **revoke_api_token** — Named tokens for a roster\n\n**Runs**\n- Each server process is one run: every request carries `X-Beck-Run` (a UUID made at startup) plus `X-Beck-Repo` and `X-Beck-Branch` from git.
