the ag-kit agent roles, skills, and workflows into any project, for any model and any agent harness.","maintainers":[{"name":"daldindev","email":"dev@daldin.com.br"}],"readme":"# agentic-skills\n\nInstall the [ag-kit](https://github.com/vudovn/ag-kit) **agent roles, skills, and workflows** into any project, for any model and any agent harness.\n\n## Why it exists\n\nag-kit is a large, well-organized body of agent instructions: 20 specialist roles, 47 skills, 13 workflows. Upstream delivers it as a workspace for one IDE runtime, so using any of it means adopting that runtime and the contract it comes with.\n\nThis installer removes that condition. One command downloads the current ag-kit and writes only the instructions into your project, as plain Markdown that whatever assistant you already use can read:\n\n- The upstream roles, skills, and workflows, **verbatim** and always current, because every install reads upstream directly.\n- One command to install, one to update, with local edits **preserved**.\n- The exact upstream commit recorded with every install.\n- **No runtime dependencies**, and no `git` needed on your machine.\n\nEverything else upstream ships sits around that content to bind it to that one runtime: hooks, an MCP configuration, the memory and rule loading, schemas, manifests, and validators. A portable install has no use for wiring, so none of it is installed.\n\n## Install\n\n```bash\nnpx @daldindev/agentic-skills init\n```\n\nOr add it to the project so the installer version is pinned in `package.json`:\n\n```bash\nnpm i -D @daldindev/agentic-skills\nnpx agentic-skills init\n```\n\nRequirements:\n\n- Node.js `>=20.11`\n- Network access to `codeload.github.com`, where GitHub serves source archives, when you run `init`, `update`, `sync`, or `diff`\n\n## Quick Start\n\n`init` creates `.agents/` in the current project:\n\n```plaintext\n.agents/\n├── ARCHITECTURE.md # Inventory of every agent, skill, and workflow\n├── LICENSE # Upstream MIT license\n├── agent/ # 20 role definitions\n├── skills/ # 47 skills, each a folder with a SKILL.md\n├── workflows/ # 13 slash-command procedures\n└── .agentic-skills/manifest.json # File hashes and the upstream commit, so updates can protect your edits\n```\n\nPoint your assistant at `.agents/ARCHITECTURE.md`. It lists every component with a one-line purpose, so the assistant can open only what a task needs.\n\n## Commands\n\n| Command | Purpose |\n| --- | --- |\n| `agentic-skills init` | Download ag-kit and install the content. Refuses a non-empty target unless `--force` |\n| `agentic-skills update` | Download ag-kit again and update installed files, keeping the ones you edited |\n| `agentic-skills sync` | Install if missing, update if present. One command that works in both states, for unattended runs |\n| `agentic-skills status` | Show what is installed, from which upstream commit, and which files were changed locally |\n| `agentic-skills diff` | Show why your edits froze a file, and what they are holding back |\n\n| Option | Purpose |\n| --- | --- |\n| `-p, --path <dir>` | Project directory, default is the current directory |\n| `-d, --dir <name>` | Install directory inside the project, default `.agents` |\n| `-r, --ref <git-ref>` | Upstream branch, tag, or commit to install, default `main` |\n| `--archive <source>` | Install from a local ag-kit `.tar.gz` or a URL instead of GitHub |\n| `--base-archive <source>` | The version you installed from, instead of downloading the commit in the manifest |\n| `-f, --force` | Overwrite files that were modified locally |\n| `--no-merge` | Never combine a local edit with an upstream change; leave every edited file frozen |\n| `--dry-run` | Download and print the plan without writing anything |\n| `--json` | Print machine-readable output |\n\nExit code `2` means the command succeeded but skipped files you had modified. They are listed in the output.\n\n## Updating\n\nThere is nothing to bump. `update` downloads the current upstream and applies it:\n\n```bash\nnpx @daldindev/agentic-skills update\n```\n\nFor each file it compares what is installed, what upstream now has, and the hash recorded at the last run.\n\n| Situation | Result |\n| --- | --- |\n| You never touched the file | Updated, or deleted when upstream dropped it |\n| You edited it somewhere upstream did not | Both changes kept |\n| You edited it where upstream also changed it | Skipped and listed, unless `--force` |\n| You created the file yourself | Never touched |\n| Upstream added a file | Installed |\n\nBoth are only kept when the two changes can be told apart and never touch. Anywhere they do touch, or where the version you installed from cannot be read, the file stays frozen instead. **Nothing you wrote is ever dropped to make that work**, and a file is never left half-combined: it is reconciled whole or left exactly as it was. `--no-merge` turns the attempt off entirely.\n\n`diff` shows what a skipped file is holding back, and whose text is whose. It reads three versions — the commit you installed from, your copy, and current upstream — so every difference has a known author:\n\n```bash\nnpx @daldindev/agentic-skills diff\n```\n\nThat lists the frozen files and what each one is stuck on. Pass a path to see the three versions of every changed region in one file.\n\nNothing is written and nothing is merged, so the decision stays yours: fold the upstream change in by hand, or take upstream and lose your edit with `--force`. Until you do one or the other, that file sits out every update.\n\nTo stay on a known upstream state instead of `main`, pass a tag or commit. The same flag reproduces an earlier install exactly:\n\n```bash\nnpx @daldindev/agentic-skills update --ref v2026.8.31\n```\n\n### Unattended runs\n\n`sync` reconciles the install against upstream whatever state it is in: it creates the directory when it is missing and updates it when it is already there. Nothing has to be known about the target beforehand, which is what makes it the command to put where no one is watching — a `postinstall` hook, a CI step, a container build:\n\n```json\n{\n \"scripts\": {\n \"postinstall\": \"agentic-skills sync\"\n }\n}\n```\n\nEvery `npm i` then brings the install to the current upstream, on a fresh clone and on a checkout that already has the content alike.\n\nYour edits survive it: a file you changed is kept, listed, and the command exits `2`. Reach for `--force` only when the install is a derived tree your project regenerates and never edits by hand, `.agents/` in `.gitignore` for instance:\n\n```bash\nagentic-skills sync --force\n```\n\nCopying that second line into a project where `.agents/` is committed means losing an edited skill on every `npm i`, silently. And `--force` only removes exit `2`: a download that cannot reach GitHub still exits `1`.\n\n## What gets installed\n\n| Upstream path | Installed as |\n| --- | --- |\n| `.agents/agent/` | `agent/` |\n| `.agents/skills/` | `skills/` |\n| `.agents/workflows/` | `workflows/` |\n| `.agents/ARCHITECTURE.md` | `ARCHITECTURE.md`, see below |\n| `LICENSE` | `LICENSE` |\n\nFiles are copied byte for byte from the upstream archive at the moment you run the command. Nothing is rewritten, summarized, or adapted, and the commit they came from goes into the manifest.\n\n`ARCHITECTURE.md` is the one exception. Upstream's inventory also documents its own runtime tooling, so the installer keeps the sections that describe the installed content (**Agents**, **Skills**, **Workflows**, **Skill Loading Protocol**, **Quick Reference**) and drops the rest. Whole sections only, never edited lines. If upstream ever renames one of those sections, the file is installed verbatim and a warning is printed, so an upstream change can never block an install.\n\nSome installed files still mention the upstream runtime or its folders in passing. Ignore those references, or point them at your own equivalent.\n\nThe archive is treated as untrusted input, and nothing in it is ever executed. See [`SECURITY.md`](./SECURITY.md) for what that means in practice.\n\n## Using the Content\n\nThe content is deliberately tool-neutral:\n\n- **Agents** are Markdown files with YAML frontmatter (`name`, `description`, `tools`, `skills`). Use them as system prompts or subagent definitions.\n- **Skills** are folders whose `SKILL.md` frontmatter includes `when_to_use`, so an assistant can decide when to load one. Some ship Python helper scripts.\n- **Workflows** are slash-command procedures, where `$ARGUMENTS` stands for the text after the command.\n\nKeep the install at `.agents/` when you can, because paths inside the content are written relative to that folder. If your tool expects its own layout, copy or link the pieces it needs and still point it at `ARCHITECTURE.md` as the entry point.\n\n## Scope and Non-Goals\n\nIn scope:\n\n- Downloading the upstream roles, skills, and workflows and installing them anywhere\n- Updating an install while preserving local edits\n- Recording upstream provenance with every install\n- Running unattended, from a postinstall hook or a CI step, with one command that works in either state\n\nOut of scope:\n\n- Authoring, editing, or hosting the content, which lives upstream and only upstream\n- Rebuilding upstream's runtime wiring, which a portable install does not need\n- Any dependency on a specific IDE, model, or agent runtime\n\n## Contributing\n\nThe installer is small on purpose. Issues and pull requests are welcome for the installer itself; problems with an agent, skill, or workflow belong upstream in ag-kit. See [`CONTRIBUTING.md`](./CONTRIBUTING.md) for local checks and release validation.\n\n## License\n\nMIT. The installed content is © VUDOVN under the MIT License and carries its own `LICENSE` file.
