following at the command line:\n\n```bash\nnpm install --save @deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints\n```\n\n### Migrating from SCSS v1.x to v2.x\n\nBe sure to read up on the new Sass Modules as most of the change in working style revolves around that.\n\n#### Change the way you import the file\n\nYou should use `@use` instead of `@import`, and you'll need to `@use` it in each file where the mixin is used.\n\nYou will also need to provide options previously set using global variables when you first `@use` the library. See the [Options](#options) section for details.\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" as bp;\n```\n\n#### Change the main mixin to use the new bp namespace\n\nReplace:\n\n```scss\n@include bp($min, $max:0, $property:width) {\n // your styles here\n}\n```\n\nWith:\n\n```scss\n@include bp.get($min, $max:0, $property:width) {\n // your styles here\n}\n```\n\n### SCSS and Less\n\n#### Importing the library\n\nImport the SCSS/Less into your own project\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" as bp;\n```\n\n**Important**: *WIth the new SCSS module standard, you will need to import the library at the top of any file where it will be used.*\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n@import \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\";\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n@import \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints.less\"\n```\n\n#### Usage\n\nAt the most basic level, everything comes from a single mixin:\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n@include bp.get($min, $max:0, $property:width) {\n // your styles here\n}\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n@include bp($min, $max:0, $property:width) {\n // your styles here\n}\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n.bp(@min, {\n // your styles here\n}}\n// or\n.bp(@min, @max=0, {\n // your styles here\n}}\n```\n\nThe recommended usage for the mixin is to go mobile first:\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n @include bp.get(m) {\n // medium styles\n }\n\n @include bp.get(l) {\n // large styles\n }\n\n @include bp.get(xl) {\n // extra large styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n}\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n @include bp(m) {\n // medium styles\n }\n\n @include bp(l) {\n // large styles\n }\n\n @include bp(xl) {\n // extra large styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n}\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n .bp(m, {\n // medium styles\n });\n\n .bp(l, {\n // large styles\n });\n\n .bp(xl, {\n // extra large styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n });\n}\n```\n\nBut if you have to, you can go large first too:\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // desktop styles\n\n @include bp.get(0, l) {\n // large and below styles\n }\n\n @include bp.get(0, m) {\n // medium and below styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n\n @include bp.get(0, s) {\n // small and below styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n}\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // desktop styles\n\n @include bp(0, l) {\n // large and below styles\n }\n\n @include bp(0, m) {\n // medium and below styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n\n @include bp(0, s) {\n // small and below styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n}\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n.module {\n // desktop styles\n\n .bp(0, l, {\n // large and below styles\n });\n\n .bp(0, m, {\n // medium and below styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n });\n\n .bp(0, s, {\n // small and below styles\n // not included in the static sheet\n });\n}\n```\n\nYou can even use pixel based widths mixed with breakpoint names.\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n @include bp.get(300, m) {\n // between 300px (in ems) and medium breakpoint\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n\n @include bp.get(m, 2000) {\n // between medium breakpoint and 2000px (in ems)\n }\n\n @include bp.get(200, 250) {\n // be as specific as you need\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n}\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n @include bp(300, m) {\n // between 300px (in ems) and medium breakpoint\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n\n @include bp(m, 2000) {\n // between medium breakpoint and 2000px (in ems)\n }\n\n @include bp(200, 250) {\n // be as specific as you need\n // not included in the static sheet\n }\n}\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n .bp(300, m, {\n // between 300px (in ems) and medium breakpoint\n // not included in the static sheet\n });\n\n .bp(m, 2000, {\n // between medium breakpoint and 2000px (in ems)\n });\n\n .bp(200, 250, {\n // be as specific as you need\n // not included in the static sheet\n });\n}\n```\n\nAnd you can also check against heights too\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n @include bp.get(0, 500, height) {\n // between 0 and 500px high\n // height breakpoints are never included in the static sheet\n }\n\n @include bp.get-height(0, 500) {\n // exactly the same as above - shortcut\n }\n}\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n @include bp(0, 500, height) {\n // between 0 and 500px high\n // height breakpoints are never included in the static sheet\n }\n\n @include bph(0, 500) {\n // exactly the same as above - shortcut\n }\n}\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n.module {\n // base styles\n\n bph(0, 500, {\n // between 0 and 500px high\n // height breakpoints are never included in the static sheet\n });\n\n .bph(500, {\n // above 500px high\n });\n}\n```\n\n##### Getting a width from a breakpoint name\n\n*SCSS v2 Only:* By default this returns em, but you can set the optional second parameter to \"rem\" or \"px\".\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n.module {\n width: bp.get-width-from-bp(l);\n\n // be sure to escape the value when setting it to a CSS variable\n --module-width: #{bp.get-width-from-bp(xxl)};\n\n // return px instead of em\n --module-width-px: #{bp.get-width-from-bp(xxl, \"px\")};\n}\n```\n\n#### Options\n\nYou can customise a number of options in the SCSS/Less. When doing this, if you're also using the JS library, make sure you update the values to match there as well.\n\n##### Flags\n\nSet these flags early in the document, they can be included after you include the breakpoint SCSS/Less file, however should be set before any usage of the mixin.\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\nWith v2, global variables are no longer used. These values are now passed into DD Breakpoints on the first time using `@use`. Subsequent uses of the library do not require the variables to be re-set.\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" with (\n $is-responsive: true,\n $base-font-size: 16\n);\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n$IS_RESPONSIVE: true; // [boolean] tells the mixin to either export media queries or not\n$FONT_BASE: 16; // [number] base font size (in px) of your site\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n@IS_RESPONSIVE: true; // [boolean] tells the mixin to either export media queries or not\n@FONT_BASE: 16; // [number] base font size (in px) of your site\n```\n\n##### Breakpoints\n\nThe default breakpoints can be updated simply by editing the following variables. These should be set *before* the mixin is included into the page for SCSS, and *after* the mixin is included into the page for Less.\n\nThese default values have been chosen because they are the most common screen resolutions that we normally support.\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\nThe new default breakpoints can be found below (we've added a couple of larger ones up to Full HD resolution).\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" with (\n $breakpoints: (\n xxs: 359,\n xs: 480,\n s: 640,\n m: 768,\n l: 1024,\n xl: 1244,\n xxl: 1410,\n xxxl: 1570,\n fhd: 1900,\n )\n);\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n$bp-xxs-min: 359;\n$bp-xs-min: 480;\n$bp-s-min: 640;\n$bp-m-min: 768; // iPad portrait\n$bp-l-min: 1024; // iPad landscape\n$bp-xl-min: 1244; // 1280px screen resolution minus scrollbars\n$bp-xxl-min: 1410; // 1440px screen resolution minus scrollbars\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n@bp-min-xxs: 359;\n@bp-min-xs: 480;\n@bp-min-s: 640;\n@bp-min-m: 768; // iPad portrait\n@bp-min-l: 1024; // iPad landscape\n@bp-min-xl: 1244; // 1280px screen resolution minus scrollbars\n@bp-min-xxl: 1410; // 1440px screen resolution minus scrollbars\n```\n\n###### Custom Breakpoints list\n\n*SCSS Only:* You can also completely customise your list in SCSS only by setting the following:\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\nWith v2, setting custom breakpoints is much simpler. Pass in a map of the smallest breakpoint size in pixels from smallest to largest breakpoint, and the library will figure out the rest.\n\nAdd as many breakpoints as you like, and no need to set the maximum sizes anymore.\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" with (\n $breakpoints: (\n xxs: 359,\n xs: 480,\n s: 640,\n m: 768,\n l: 1024,\n xl: 1244,\n xxl: 1410,\n xxxl: 1570,\n fhd: 1900,\n )\n);\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n// customised - max numbers are the next breakpoints min minus 1px\n$bp-list-min: small 359, medium 768, large 1024, xlarge 1244;\n$bp-list-max: small 767, medium 1023, large 1243;\n```\n\nYou don't need to set a maximum of the highest breakpoint.\n\n##### Debug Mode\n\n*New in SCSS v2:* When debugging it's extremely helpful to know what breakpoint you're currently using. A small overlay can be added by using the `$dev-mode` properties on import.\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" with (\n $dev-mode: (\n enabled: false, // enable or disable the CSS output\n selector: \"body::after\", // set the selector (should be a psuedo element)\n position: top left, // set the vertical and horizontal position - valid combinations are one of top or bottom, and one of left or right (order doesn't matter)\n on-dark: false // by default it's black text on white, this property will switch it to white text on black\n )\n);\n```\n\n##### Static Stylesheet Range\n\nYou can customise the static stylesheet range by setting the min size (should mostly be 0) and the max size range:\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" with (\n $static: (\n min: 0,\n max: 1244\n )\n);\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n$bp-static-min: 0;\n$bp-static-max: $bp-xl-max;\n```\n\n***Less:***\n\n```less\n@bp-min-static: unit(0, em);\n@bp-max-static: unit(@bp-max-l / @FONT_BASE, em);\n```\n\n##### Print Stylesheet Range\n\n*SCSS Only:* Similar to the static stylesheet range, SCSS allows for the ability to set a range for print styles as well:\n\n***SCSS v2:***\n\n```scss\n@use \"~@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints\" with (\n $print: (\n min: 0,\n max: 550\n )\n);\n```\n\n***SCSS v1:***\n\n```scss\n$bp-print-min: 0 !default;\n$bp-print-max: 550 !default;\n```\n\n### JavaScript\n\nJSDoc documentation is published to [Doclets](https://doclets.io/DeloitteDigitalAPAC/DDBreakpoints).\n\nThe JS library is wrapped in a [UMD](https://github.com/umdjs/umd) module, so it will play nice if you are using webpack or a similar tool.\n\n```js\n// Browserify example\nvar bp = require('@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints');\n```\n\nOtherwise, ```DD.bp``` is used as a namespace on the window object.\n\n#### ES6 version\n\n```js\n// ES6\nimport DDBreakpoints from '@deloitte-digital-au/ddbreakpoints/lib/dd.breakpoints.es6';\n```\n\nThere is also an ES6 version that follows the exact same approach as the UMD version.\n\n### The library\n\nThere are two main functions for the JS library.\n\n#### `.get()`\n\nReturns the media query as a string. Perfect for use with [enquire.js](http://wicky.nillia.ms/enquire.js/).\n\nYou can pass through the same values as the SCSS, however you can also pass through a single string of comma separated values which can be passed through dynamically like from `data-` attributes.\n\n```javascript\nDD.bp.get(min /* string || number */, max = 0 /* string || number */, property = 'width' /* string */);\n\n// examples\nDD.bp.get('s');\nDD.bp.get('s', 'l');\nDD.bp.get(0, 500);\n\n// string notation\nDD.bp.get('s,l');\n```\n\nOr in ES6 replace `DD.bp` with `DDBreakpoints` (or whatever variable you've assigned the import to).\n\n```javascript\nDDBreakpoints.get(min /* string || number */, max = 0 /* string || number */, property = 'width' /* string */);\n\n// examples\nDDBreakpoints.get('s');\nDDBreakpoints.get('s', 'l');\nDDBreakpoints.get(0, 500);\n\n// string notation\nDDBreakpoints.get('s,l');\n```\n\nThere is also a shortcut function for height based media queries\n\n```javascript\nDD.bp.getHeight(min /* string || number */, max = 0 /* string || number */);\n```\n\n#### `.is()`\n\nReturns a boolean indicating if the current viewport matches the requested media query. This uses `window.matchMedia().matches` so use a [polyfill](https://github.com/paulirish/matchMedia.js/) if you need one.\n\n```javascript\nDD.bp.is(min /* string || number */, max = 0 /* string || number */, property = 'width' /* string */);\n\n// examples\nDD.bp.is('s');\nDD.bp.is('s', 'l');\nDD.bp.is(0, 500);\n\n// string notation\nDD.bp.is('s,l');\n```\n\nThere is also a shortcut function for height based media queries\n\n```javascript\nDD.bp.isHeight(min /* string || number */, max = 0 /* string || number */);\n```\n\n#### `.options()`\n\nYou can customise the JavaScript library by using the `options()` method.\n\n```javascript\nDD.bp.options(opts /* object */);\n```\n\nThere are three customisable options:\n\n- `baseFontSize` [number=16] Base font size of your site (browser default is normally 16px) this helps convert pixel widths to relative units for the media queries (using em units)\n- `isResponsive` [boolean=true] Set to false if the site shouldn't get a responsive stylesheet (e.g. IE8 and below)\n- `breakpoints` [Array] Use a custom list of name/pixel width breakpoints instead of the default in an array of `{ name: 'NAME', px: 000 }`\n\n```javascript\nDD.bp.options({\n baseFontSize: 16\n isResponsive: true,\n breakpoints: [\n { name: 'small', px: 400 },\n { name: 'medium', px: 800 },\n { name: 'large', px: 1200 }\n ]\n});\n```\n\nMake sure to ensure that the values used here match the values used in the SCSS.\n\n## Change log\n\n`2.0.5` - Mar 2025\n\n- Updated SCSS to reference full libraries for `sass:map` and `sass:meta` (e.g. `meta.type_of` instead of `type_of`) remove warnings when compiling.\n\n`2.0.4` - Aug 2021\n\n- Updated SCSS to support Dart SASS 2.0 by removing `a / b` and replacing with `math.div(a, b)`.\n\n`2.0.3` - July 2020\n\n- Updated JS library to support es6 while maintaining old version for backwards compatibility. We use this tool to accelerate our development process when creating responsive websites and webapps - it also helps us simplify consistency accross all of our projects.\n\nWe were inspired to create DDBreakpoints back in May 2013, as a result of Chris Coyier's CSS-Tricks article: [Naming Media Queries](http://css-tricks.com/naming-media-queries/).\n\nAs we built more responsive websites, our philosophy for creating responsive sites that don't look responsive (i.e. don't use a predictable standard grid) meant that we needed to add more and more breakpoints. While we always took a mobile-first approach, we would regularly find ourselves adding an \"and-below\" breakpoint for edge cases. This meant that our breakpoints mixin was getting overly large and repetitively complex.\n\nToday, DDBreakpoints is used on almost every responsive project by Deloitte Digital in Australia... and now, it's available for your projects as well!\n\n---\n\n## Who is Deloitte Digital?\n\n**Part Business.
