It does not require Codex to be installed or signed in.\n\n## Manual Install Equivalent\n\nFrom this repo:\n\n```bash\nnode apps/companion/install-native-host.mjs install --extension-id <chrome-extension-id>\n```\n\nThe installer copies the host into:\n\n```text\n~/Library/Application Support/Codex Companion/\n```\n\nIt writes the Chrome native messaging manifest to:\n\n```text\n~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/NativeMessagingHosts/com.auth_input_checker.codex_companion.json\n```\n\nRoutine logs go to:\n\n```text\n~/Library/Logs/Codex Companion/native-host.log\n```\n\n## Protocol\n\nChrome sends only narrow companion methods:\n\n- `status`\n- `authCode/find`\n\nThe extension does not send arbitrary prompt text or output schemas. `authCode/find` accepts structured auth lookup inputs, and the companion builds the Codex prompt internally.\n\nRuntime status separates companion state from Codex state:\n\n- Companion: missing, outdated, ready.\n- Codex: missing, unauthenticated, unavailable/error, ready.\n\nProgress labels are product-readable and redacted: `Searching inbox`, `Reading email`, `Checking candidate`, `Extracting code`, and `Filling field`.\n","readmeFilename":"README.md","_rev":"1-e49154eac0ba0078a6154299a0f89c0c"}
