Install via: `yarn add @fuelrats/next-named-routes` or `npm i @fuelrats/next-named-routes`\n2. Structure your `pages` directory for [Next.js dynamic routes][nextdocs-dynamic-routes].\n3. Create a `routes.js` file in your project similar to this:\n\n```javascript\nimport NextLink from 'next/link'\nimport * as NextRouter from 'next/router'\nimport routes from '@fuelrats/next-named-routes'\n\n\n// Destructure what you need\nconst { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter } = routes(NextLink, NextRouter)\n  .add('about', '/about-us') // define your routes\n  .add('profile', '/profile/[tab]')\n  .add('cms', '/cms/[...cmsPath]')\n\n\n// export what you need\nexport { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter }\n```\n\n4. Use `<Link />` and `Router` in your application!\n\n\n\n\n\n## Defining routes in your application\n\nIn large applications routes can get long and complex. You can use the `.add()` function to alias your routes into simple names.\n\nRoute definitions are completely optional. You can use a normal `href` value to refer to your page without issue!\n\nto use `.add()`, just tag the function onto the end of your `routes()` call:\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes(NextLink, NextRouter)\n  .add(name, href)\n```\n\n`.add()` accepts two arguments:\n* **`name`** - The name of your route. This will be used to refer back to the given path. Can be a string or symbol.\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory. Identical to `href` used in `next/link` and `next/router`. Also accepts a [function](#function-routes).\n\nIf successful, it will return the current instance of `routes()` so you can chain route definitions together.\n\nSee [Using `<Link />`](#using-link-) and [Using `Router`](#using-router) below for more details on using defined routes.\n\n\n### Function routes\n\n`.add()` also accepts a callback for ultimate control over how your route definition behaves. This is good for when you want to process objects into path slugs, or if you want to control what page the route leads to based upon the value of a parameter.\n\nThe callback is passed a single parameter:\n\n* **`params`** - object given to `<Link />` or `Router` call\n\nand is expected to return an object with the following properties:\n\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory.\n* **`as`** - The path that will be rendered in the browser URL bar.\n* **`query`** - object of parameters to be transformed into a query string (optional)\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes(NextLink, NextRouter)\n.add('forum post', ({ publishDate, slug, ...query }) => {\n  const year = publishDate.getUTCFullYear()\n  const month = publishDate.getUTCMonth()\n  const day = publishDate.getUTCDate()\n\n  return {\n    href: '/forum/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]',\n    as: `/forum/${year}/${month}/${day}/${slug}`,\n    query,\n  }\n})\n```\n\nAnother example:\n\n```javascript\n.add('forum list', ({ category, page, ...query }) => {\n  let href = '/forum'\n  let as = '/forum'\n\n  if (category) {\n    href += '/cat/[category]'\n    href += `/cat/${category}`\n\n    if (page) {\n      href += '/[page]'\n      as += `/${page}`\n    }\n  }\n\n\n  return { href, as, query }\n})\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `<Link />`\n\nThe provided `<Link />` component is a wrapped `next/link` which lets you reference defined routes by their names, and generate the final URL via parameters.\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* All other props of [`next/link`][nextdocs-link], however `href` and `as` are overwritten by `route` if it's defined.\n\n### `route` as a defined route name\n\n```javascript\nimport { Link } from '../routes'\n\nconst Nav = () => (\n  <div>\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum list\">\n      <a>forums</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]\"\n      *   as=\"/forums/2015/06/01/out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum post\" params={{ year: '2015', month: '06', day: '01', slug: 'out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats' }}>\n      <a>Forum post</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/cms/[...cmsPath]\"\n      *   as=\"/cms/legal/terms-of-service\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"cms\" params{{ cmsPath: [ 'legal', 'terms-of-service' ] }}>\n        <a>Terms of Service</a>\n    </link>\n  </div>\n)\n)\n```\n\n\n### `route` as a file path\n\nYou can also refer to routes not defined in `routes.js` by using page's path in your `pages` directory.\n\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview' }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n### Handling parameters\n\nThe route compiler is smart about what parameters are used by your dynamic routes. for example:\n\nUnused parameters will be passed as a querystring to your page.\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]?welcome=true\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview?welcome=true\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview', welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\nMissing parameters will cause an error.\n```javascript\n    {/* ERROR! \"tab\" is required */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `Router`\n\nThe `Router` object ia a modified `next/router` with three additional functions.\n\n* **`.pushRoute()`** - wrapped `.push()`\n* **`.replaceRoute()`** - wrapped `.replace()`\n* **`.prefetchRoute()`** - wrapped `.prefetch()`\n\nAll three accept the same parameters and behave like their `next/router` counterparts\n\n```javascript\nimport Router from '../routes'\n\nRouter.pushRoute(route, params, options)\n```\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* **`options`** - `next/router` options object.\n\n`route` and `params` arguments accept the same values as the corresponding `<Link />` props above.\n\n\n\n\n\n## Migrating from `next-routes`\n\nComing from [`next-routes`][next-routes]? Welcome! While we do not provide the exact same API, it should feel familiar to use.\n\nThis library is **NOT** a simple drop-in replacement for `next-routes`. Some work is required to transition your route definitions to dynamic route string format, and most advanced regex matches are not possible since `next.js` does not use `path-to-regexp`.\n\n1. Follow the setup as above, making adjustments to your `routes.js` file as needed.\n2. remove `next-routes` from your server router. In most cases this just involves removing the `next-routes` handler wrapper, and the library import itself.\n    - If you only implemented a custom server for dynamic routing, chances are you could remove it altogether!\n3. remove `next-routes` via `yarn remove next-routes` or `npm r -S next-routes`\n\n### Differences from `next-routes`\n* Arguments for `routes.add()` differs significantly from `next-routes`. For more information see the [Configuring `routes()`](#configuring-routes) section above.\n    * `name` is now required.\n    * `pattern`, which we call `href`, is a `Next.js` dynamic route path instead of a `path-to-regexp` pattern.\n    * `page`, or the path to the page file, is no longer needed as the file system will always reflect the `href` value.\n* For compatibility with the upcoming Yarn 2, `next-named-routes` does not attempt to load `NextLink` and `NextRouter` directly. Instead, `NextLink` and all exports of `NextRouter` must be manually provided to `next-named-routes`. You can see this in the example config above.\n\n\n---\n\nBrought to you by [The Fuel Rats!][fuelrats] ⛽🐀\n\n[fuelrats]: https://fuelrats.com/\n[next-routes]: https://github.com/fridays/next-routes\n[nextdocs-dynamic-routes]: https://nextjs.org/docs/routing/dynamic-routes\n[nextdocs-link]: https://nextjs.org/docs/api-reference/next/link\n","licenseText":"BSD 3-Clause License\n\nCopyright (c) 2019, The Fuel Rats Mischief\nAll rights reserved.\n\nRedistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without\nmodification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met:\n\n1. Install via: `yarn add @fuelrats/next-named-routes` or `npm i @fuelrats/next-named-routes`\n2. Structure your `pages` directory for [Next.js dynamic routes][nextdocs-dynamic-routes].\n3. Create a `routes.js` file in your project similar to this:\n\n```javascript\nimport NextLink from 'next/link'\nimport * as NextRouter from 'next/router'\nimport routes from '@fuelrats/next-named-routes'\n\n\n// Destructure what you need\nconst { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter } = routes(NextLink, NextRouter)\n  .add('about', '/about-us') // define your routes\n  .add('profile', '/profile/[tab]')\n  .add('cms', '/cms/[...cmsPath]')\n\n\n// export what you need\nexport { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter }\n```\n\n4. Use `<Link />` and `Router` in your application!\n\n\n\n\n\n## Defining routes in your application\n\nIn large applications routes can get long and complex. You can use the `.add()` function to alias your routes into simple names.\n\nRoute definitions are completely optional. You can use a normal `href` value to refer to your page without issue!\n\nto use `.add()`, just tag the function onto the end of your `routes()` call:\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes(NextLink, NextRouter)\n  .add(name, href)\n```\n\n`.add()` accepts two arguments:\n* **`name`** - The name of your route. This will be used to refer back to the given path. Can be a string or symbol.\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory. Identical to `href` used in `next/link` and `next/router`. Also accepts a [function](#function-routes).\n\nIf successful, it will return the current instance of `routes()` so you can chain route definitions together.\n\nSee [Using `<Link />`](#using-link-) and [Using `Router`](#using-router) below for more details on using defined routes.\n\n\n### Function routes\n\n`.add()` also accepts a callback for ultimate control over how your route definition behaves. This is good for when you want to process objects into path slugs, or if you want to control what page the route leads to based upon the value of a parameter.\n\nThe callback is passed a single parameter:\n\n* **`params`** - object given to `<Link />` or `Router` call\n\nand is expected to return an object with the following properties:\n\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory.\n* **`as`** - The path that will be rendered in the browser URL bar.\n* **`query`** - object of parameters to be transformed into a query string (optional)\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes(NextLink, NextRouter)\n.add('forum post', ({ publishDate, slug, ...query }) => {\n  const year = publishDate.getUTCFullYear()\n  const month = publishDate.getUTCMonth()\n  const day = publishDate.getUTCDate()\n\n  return {\n    href: '/forum/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]',\n    as: `/forum/${year}/${month}/${day}/${slug}`,\n    query,\n  }\n})\n```\n\nAnother example:\n\n```javascript\n.add('forum list', ({ category, page, ...query }) => {\n  let href = '/forum'\n  let as = '/forum'\n\n  if (category) {\n    href += '/cat/[category]'\n    href += `/cat/${category}`\n\n    if (page) {\n      href += '/[page]'\n      as += `/${page}`\n    }\n  }\n\n\n  return { href, as, query }\n})\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `<Link />`\n\nThe provided `<Link />` component is a wrapped `next/link` which lets you reference defined routes by their names, and generate the final URL via parameters.\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* All other props of [`next/link`][nextdocs-link], however `href` and `as` are overwritten by `route` if it's defined.\n\n### `route` as a defined route name\n\n```javascript\nimport { Link } from '../routes'\n\nconst Nav = () => (\n  <div>\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum list\">\n      <a>forums</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]\"\n      *   as=\"/forums/2015/06/01/out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum post\" params={{ year: '2015', month: '06', day: '01', slug: 'out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats' }}>\n      <a>Forum post</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/cms/[...cmsPath]\"\n      *   as=\"/cms/legal/terms-of-service\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"cms\" params{{ cmsPath: [ 'legal', 'terms-of-service' ] }}>\n        <a>Terms of Service</a>\n    </link>\n  </div>\n)\n)\n```\n\n\n### `route` as a file path\n\nYou can also refer to routes not defined in `routes.js` by using page's path in your `pages` directory.\n\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview' }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n### Handling parameters\n\nThe route compiler is smart about what parameters are used by your dynamic routes. for example:\n\nUnused parameters will be passed as a querystring to your page.\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]?welcome=true\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview?welcome=true\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview', welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\nMissing parameters will cause an error.\n```javascript\n    {/* ERROR! \"tab\" is required */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `Router`\n\nThe `Router` object ia a modified `next/router` with three additional functions.\n\n* **`.pushRoute()`** - wrapped `.push()`\n* **`.replaceRoute()`** - wrapped `.replace()`\n* **`.prefetchRoute()`** - wrapped `.prefetch()`\n\nAll three accept the same parameters and behave like their `next/router` counterparts\n\n```javascript\nimport Router from '../routes'\n\nRouter.pushRoute(route, params, options)\n```\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* **`options`** - `next/router` options object.\n\n`route` and `params` arguments accept the same values as the corresponding `<Link />` props above.\n\n\n\n\n\n## Migrating from `next-routes`\n\nComing from [`next-routes`][next-routes]? Welcome! While we do not provide the exact same API, it should feel familiar to use.\n\nThis library is **NOT** a simple drop-in replacement for `next-routes`. Some work is required to transition your route definitions to dynamic route string format, and most advanced regex matches are not possible since `next.js` does not use `path-to-regexp`.\n\n1. Follow the setup as above, making adjustments to your `routes.js` file as needed.\n2. remove `next-routes` from your server router. In most cases this just involves removing the `next-routes` handler wrapper, and the library import itself.\n    - If you only implemented a custom server for dynamic routing, chances are you could remove it altogether!\n3. remove `next-routes` via `yarn remove next-routes` or `npm r -S next-routes`\n\n### Differences from `next-routes`\n* Arguments for `routes.add()` differs significantly from `next-routes`. For more information see the [Configuring `routes()`](#configuring-routes) section above.\n    * `name` is now required.\n    * `pattern`, which we call `href`, is a `Next.js` dynamic route path instead of a `path-to-regexp` pattern.\n    * `page`, or the path to the page file, is no longer needed as the file system will always reflect the `href` value.\n* For compatibility with the upcoming Yarn 2, `next-named-routes` does not attempt to load `NextLink` and `NextRouter` directly. Instead, `NextLink` and all exports of `NextRouter` must be manually provided to `next-named-routes`. You can see this in the example config above.\n\n\n---\n\nBrought to you by [The Fuel Rats!][fuelrats] ⛽🐀\n\n[fuelrats]: https://fuelrats.com/\n[next-routes]: https://github.com/fridays/next-routes\n[nextdocs-dynamic-routes]: https://nextjs.org/docs/routing/dynamic-routes\n[nextdocs-link]: https://nextjs.org/docs/api-reference/next/link\n","licenseText":"BSD 3-Clause License\n\nCopyright (c) 2019, The Fuel Rats Mischief\nAll rights reserved.\n\nRedistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without\nmodification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met:\n\n1. This is good for when you want to process objects into path slugs, or if you want to control what page the route leads to based upon the value of a parameter.\n\nThe callback is passed a single parameter:\n\n* **`params`** - object given to `<Link />` or `Router` call\n\nand is expected to return an object with the following properties:\n\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory.\n* **`as`** - The path that will be rendered in the browser URL bar.\n* **`query`** - object of parameters to be transformed into a query string (optional)\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes(NextLink, NextRouter)\n.add('forum post', ({ publishDate, slug, ...query }) => {\n  const year = publishDate.getUTCFullYear()\n  const month = publishDate.getUTCMonth()\n  const day = publishDate.getUTCDate()\n\n  return {\n    href: '/forum/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]',\n    as: `/forum/${year}/${month}/${day}/${slug}`,\n    query,\n  }\n})\n```\n\nAnother example:\n\n```javascript\n.add('forum list', ({ category, page, ...query }) => {\n  let href = '/forum'\n  let as = '/forum'\n\n  if (category) {\n    href += '/cat/[category]'\n    href += `/cat/${category}`\n\n    if (page) {\n      href += '/[page]'\n      as += `/${page}`\n    }\n  }\n\n\n  return { href, as, query }\n})\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `<Link />`\n\nThe provided `<Link />` component is a wrapped `next/link` which lets you reference defined routes by their names, and generate the final URL via parameters.\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* All other props of [`next/link`][nextdocs-link], however `href` and `as` are overwritten by `route` if it's defined.\n\n### `route` as a defined route name\n\n```javascript\nimport { Link } from '../routes'\n\nconst Nav = () => (\n  <div>\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum list\">\n      <a>forums</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]\"\n      *   as=\"/forums/2015/06/01/out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum post\" params={{ year: '2015', month: '06', day: '01', slug: 'out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats' }}>\n      <a>Forum post</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/cms/[...cmsPath]\"\n      *   as=\"/cms/legal/terms-of-service\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"cms\" params{{ cmsPath: [ 'legal', 'terms-of-service' ] }}>\n        <a>Terms of Service</a>\n    </link>\n  </div>\n)\n)\n```\n\n\n### `route` as a file path\n\nYou can also refer to routes not defined in `routes.js` by using page's path in your `pages` directory.\n\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview' }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n### Handling parameters\n\nThe route compiler is smart about what parameters are used by your dynamic routes. for example:\n\nUnused parameters will be passed as a querystring to your page.\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]?welcome=true\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview?welcome=true\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview', welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\nMissing parameters will cause an error.\n```javascript\n    {/* ERROR! \"tab\" is required */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `Router`\n\nThe `Router` object ia a modified `next/router` with three additional functions.\n\n* **`.pushRoute()`** - wrapped `.push()`\n* **`.replaceRoute()`** - wrapped `.replace()`\n* **`.prefetchRoute()`** - wrapped `.prefetch()`\n\nAll three accept the same parameters and behave like their `next/router` counterparts\n\n```javascript\nimport Router from '../routes'\n\nRouter.pushRoute(route, params, options)\n```\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* **`options`** - `next/router` options object.\n\n`route` and `params` arguments accept the same values as the corresponding `<Link />` props above.\n\n\n\n\n\n## Migrating from `next-routes`\n\nComing from [`next-routes`][next-routes]? Welcome! While we do not provide the exact same API, it should feel familiar to use.\n\nThis library is **NOT** a simple drop-in replacement for `next-routes`. Some work is required to transition your route definitions to dynamic route string format, and most advanced regex matches are not possible since `next.js` does not use `path-to-regexp`.\n\n1. Follow the setup as above, making adjustments to your `routes.js` file as needed.\n2. remove `next-routes` from your server router. In most cases this just involves removing the `next-routes` handler wrapper, and the library import itself.\n    - If you only implemented a custom server for dynamic routing, chances are you could remove it altogether!\n3. remove `next-routes` via `yarn remove next-routes` or `npm r -S next-routes`\n\n### Differences from `next-routes`\n* Arguments for `routes.add()` differs significantly from `next-routes`. For more information see the [Configuring `routes()`](#configuring-routes) section above.\n    * `name` is now required.\n    * `pattern`, which we call `href`, is a `Next.js` dynamic route path instead of a `path-to-regexp` pattern.\n    * `page`, or the path to the page file, is no longer needed as the file system will always reflect the `href` value.\n* For compatibility with the upcoming Yarn 2, `next-named-routes` does not attempt to load `NextLink` and `NextRouter` directly. Instead, `NextLink` and all exports of `NextRouter` must be manually provided to `next-named-routes`. You can see this in the example config above.\n\n\n---\n\nBrought to you by [The Fuel Rats!][fuelrats] ⛽🐀\n\n[fuelrats]: https://fuelrats.com/\n[next-routes]: https://github.com/fridays/next-routes\n[nextdocs-dynamic-routes]: https://nextjs.org/docs/routing/dynamic-routes\n[nextdocs-link]: https://nextjs.org/docs/api-reference/next/link\n","licenseText":"BSD 3-Clause License\n\nCopyright (c) 2019, The Fuel Rats Mischief\nAll rights reserved.\n\nRedistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without\nmodification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met:\n\n1. Install via: `yarn add @fuelrats/next-named-routes` or `npm i @fuelrats/next-named-routes`\n2. Structure your `pages` directory for [Next.js dynamic routes][nextdocs-dynamic-routes].\n3. Create a `routes.js` file in your project similar to this:\n\n```javascript\nimport routes from '@fuelrats/next-named-routes'\n\n\n// Destructure what you need\nconst { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter } = routes()\n  .add('about', '/about-us') // define your routes\n  .add('profile', '/profile/[tab]')\n  .add('cms', '/cms/[...cmsPath]')\n\n\n// export what you need\nexport { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter }\n```\n\n4. Use `<Link />` and `Router` in your application!\n\n\n\n\n\n## Defining routes in your application\n\nIn large applications routes can get long and complex. You can use the `.add()` function to alias your routes into simple names.\n\nRoute definitions are completely optional. You can use a normal `href` value to refer to your page without issue!\n\nto use `.add()`, just tag the function onto the end of your `routes()` call:\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes()\n  .add(name, href)\n```\n\n`.add()` accepts two arguments:\n* **`name`** - The name of your route. This will be used to refer back to the given path. Can be a string or symbol.\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory. Identical to `href` used in `next/link` and `next/router`. Also accepts a [function](#function-routes).\n\nIf successful, it will return the current instance of `routes()` so you can chain route definitions together.\n\nSee [Using `<Link />`](#using-link-) and [Using `Router`](#using-router) below for more details on using defined routes.\n\n\n### Function routes\n\n`.add()` also accepts a callback for ultimate control over how your route definition behaves. This is good for when you want to process objects into path slugs, or if you want to control what page the route leads to based upon the value of a parameter.\n\nThe callback is passed a single parameter:\n\n* **`params`** - object given to `<Link />` or `Router` call\n\nand is expected to return an object with the following properties:\n\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory.\n* **`as`** - The path that will be rendered in the browser URL bar.\n* **`query`** - object of parameters to be transformed into a query string (optional)\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes()\n.add('forum post', ({ publishDate, slug, ...query }) => {\n  const year = publishDate.getUTCFullYear()\n  const month = publishDate.getUTCMonth()\n  const day = publishDate.getUTCDate()\n\n  return {\n    href: '/forum/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]',\n    as: `/forum/${year}/${month}/${day}/${slug}`,\n    query,\n  }\n})\n```\n\nAnother example:\n\n```javascript\n.add('forum list', ({ category, page, ...query }) => {\n  let href = '/forum'\n  let as = '/forum'\n\n  if (category) {\n    href += '/cat/[category]'\n    href += `/cat/${category}`\n\n    if (page) {\n      href += '/[page]'\n      as += `/${page}`\n    }\n  }\n\n\n  return { href, as, query }\n})\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `<Link />`\n\nThe provided `<Link />` component is a wrapped `next/link` which lets you reference defined routes by their names, and generate the final URL via parameters.\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* All other props of [`next/link`][nextdocs-link], however `href` and `as` are overwritten by `route` if it's defined.\n\n### `route` as a defined route name\n\n```javascript\nimport { Link } from '../routes'\n\nconst Nav = () => (\n  <div>\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum list\">\n      <a>forums</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]\"\n      *   as=\"/forums/2015/06/01/out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum post\" params={{ year: '2015', month: '06', day: '01', slug: 'out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats' }}>\n      <a>Forum post</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/cms/[...cmsPath]\"\n      *   as=\"/cms/legal/terms-of-service\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"cms\" params{{ cmsPath: [ 'legal', 'terms-of-service' ] }}>\n        <a>Terms of Service</a>\n    </link>\n  </div>\n)\n)\n```\n\n\n### `route` as a file path\n\nYou can also refer to routes not defined in `routes.js` by using page's path in your `pages` directory.\n\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview' }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n### Handling parameters\n\nThe route compiler is smart about what parameters are used by your dynamic routes. for example:\n\nUnused parameters will be passed as a querystring to your page.\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]?welcome=true\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview?welcome=true\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview', welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\nMissing parameters will cause an error.\n```javascript\n    {/* ERROR! \"tab\" is required */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `Router`\n\nThe `Router` object ia a modified `next/router` with three additional functions.\n\n* **`.pushRoute()`** - wrapped `.push()`\n* **`.replaceRoute()`** - wrapped `.replace()`\n* **`.prefetchRoute()`** - wrapped `.prefetch()`\n\nAll three accept the same parameters and behave like their `next/router` counterparts\n\n```javascript\nimport Router from '../routes'\n\nRouter.pushRoute(route, params, options)\n```\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* **`options`** - `next/router` options object.\n\n`route` and `params` arguments accept the same values as the corresponding `<Link />` props above.\n\n\n## Providing a Custom `Link` and `Router`\n\nYou can provide your own `Link` and `Router` instances if you wish to extend functionality futher, however there is one major caveat. the `Router` object **MUST** be an object which provides both the main Router API object and the `useRouter()` hook.\n\n\nPass `Link` and `Router` to routes like the following:\n\n```javascript\nconst RouterObj = {\n  default: CustomRouter\n  useRouter: customRouterHook\n}\n\nconst {Link, Router} = routes(CustomLink, RouterObj)\n```\n\nWhile inconvienent, we require both of these things to be able to provide the wrapped `useRouter()` hook and `withRouter()` HoC.\n\nThe custom `Router` is **NOT** required to pass a custom `Link` component. One can exist without the other.\n\n## Migrating from `next-routes`\n\nComing from [`next-routes`][next-routes]? Welcome! While we do not provide the exact same API, it should feel familiar to use.\n\nThis library is **NOT** a simple drop-in replacement for `next-routes`. Some work is required to transition your route definitions to dynamic route string format, and most advanced regex matches are not possible since `next.js` does not use `path-to-regexp`.\n\n1. Follow the setup as above, making adjustments to your `routes.js` file as needed.\n2. remove `next-routes` from your server router. In most cases this just involves removing the `next-routes` handler wrapper, and the library import itself.\n    - If you only implemented a custom server for dynamic routing, chances are you could remove it altogether!\n3. remove `next-routes` via `yarn remove next-routes` or `npm r -S next-routes`\n\n\n### Differences from `next-routes`\n* Arguments for `routes.add()` differs significantly from `next-routes`. For more information see the [Configuring `routes()`](#configuring-routes) section above.\n    * `name` is now required.\n    * `pattern`, which we call `href`, is a `Next.js` dynamic route path instead of a `path-to-regexp` pattern.\n    * `page`, or the path to the page file, is no longer needed as the file system will always reflect the `href` value.\n\n\n---\n\nBrought to you by [The Fuel Rats!][fuelrats] ⛽🐀\n\n[fuelrats]: https://fuelrats.com/\n[next-routes]: https://github.com/fridays/next-routes\n[nextdocs-dynamic-routes]: https://nextjs.org/docs/routing/dynamic-routes\n[nextdocs-link]: https://nextjs.org/docs/api-reference/next/link\n","licenseText":"BSD 3-Clause License\n\nCopyright (c) 2019, The Fuel Rats Mischief\nAll rights reserved.\n\nRedistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without\nmodification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met:\n\n1. This is good for when you want to process objects into path slugs, or if you want to control what page the route leads to based upon the value of a parameter.\n\nThe callback is passed a single parameter:\n\n* **`params`** - object given to `<Link />` or `Router` call\n\nand is expected to return an object with the following properties:\n\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory.\n* **`as`** - The path that will be rendered in the browser URL bar.\n* **`query`** - object of parameters to be transformed into a query string (optional)\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes()\n.add('forum post', ({ publishDate, slug, ...query }) => {\n  const year = publishDate.getUTCFullYear()\n  const month = publishDate.getUTCMonth()\n  const day = publishDate.getUTCDate()\n\n  return {\n    href: '/forum/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]',\n    as: `/forum/${year}/${month}/${day}/${slug}`,\n    query,\n  }\n})\n```\n\nAnother example:\n\n```javascript\n.add('forum list', ({ category, page, ...query }) => {\n  let href = '/forum'\n  let as = '/forum'\n\n  if (category) {\n    href += '/cat/[category]'\n    href += `/cat/${category}`\n\n    if (page) {\n      href += '/[page]'\n      as += `/${page}`\n    }\n  }\n\n\n  return { href, as, query }\n})\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `<Link />`\n\nThe provided `<Link />` component is a wrapped `next/link` which lets you reference defined routes by their names, and generate the final URL via parameters.\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* All other props of [`next/link`][nextdocs-link], however `href` and `as` are overwritten by `route` if it's defined.\n\n### `route` as a defined route name\n\n```javascript\nimport { Link } from '../routes'\n\nconst Nav = () => (\n  <div>\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum list\">\n      <a>forums</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]\"\n      *   as=\"/forums/2015/06/01/out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum post\" params={{ year: '2015', month: '06', day: '01', slug: 'out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats' }}>\n      <a>Forum post</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/cms/[...cmsPath]\"\n      *   as=\"/cms/legal/terms-of-service\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"cms\" params{{ cmsPath: [ 'legal', 'terms-of-service' ] }}>\n        <a>Terms of Service</a>\n    </link>\n  </div>\n)\n)\n```\n\n\n### `route` as a file path\n\nYou can also refer to routes not defined in `routes.js` by using page's path in your `pages` directory.\n\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview' }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n### Handling parameters\n\nThe route compiler is smart about what parameters are used by your dynamic routes. for example:\n\nUnused parameters will be passed as a querystring to your page.\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]?welcome=true\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview?welcome=true\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview', welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\nMissing parameters will cause an error.\n```javascript\n    {/* ERROR! \"tab\" is required */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `Router`\n\nThe `Router` object ia a modified `next/router` with three additional functions.\n\n* **`.pushRoute()`** - wrapped `.push()`\n* **`.replaceRoute()`** - wrapped `.replace()`\n* **`.prefetchRoute()`** - wrapped `.prefetch()`\n\nAll three accept the same parameters and behave like their `next/router` counterparts\n\n```javascript\nimport Router from '../routes'\n\nRouter.pushRoute(route, params, options)\n```\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* **`options`** - `next/router` options object.\n\n`route` and `params` arguments accept the same values as the corresponding `<Link />` props above.\n\n\n## Providing a Custom `Link` and `Router`\n\nYou can provide your own `Link` and `Router` instances if you wish to extend functionality futher, however there is one major caveat. the `Router` object **MUST** be an object which provides both the main Router API object and the `useRouter()` hook.\n\n\nPass `Link` and `Router` to routes like the following:\n\n```javascript\nconst RouterObj = {\n  default: CustomRouter\n  useRouter: customRouterHook\n}\n\nconst {Link, Router} = routes(CustomLink, RouterObj)\n```\n\nWhile inconvienent, we require both of these things to be able to provide the wrapped `useRouter()` hook and `withRouter()` HoC.\n\nThe custom `Router` is **NOT** required to pass a custom `Link` component. One can exist without the other.\n\n## Migrating from `next-routes`\n\nComing from [`next-routes`][next-routes]? Welcome! While we do not provide the exact same API, it should feel familiar to use.\n\nThis library is **NOT** a simple drop-in replacement for `next-routes`. Some work is required to transition your route definitions to dynamic route string format, and most advanced regex matches are not possible since `next.js` does not use `path-to-regexp`.\n\n1. Follow the setup as above, making adjustments to your `routes.js` file as needed.\n2. remove `next-routes` from your server router. In most cases this just involves removing the `next-routes` handler wrapper, and the library import itself.\n    - If you only implemented a custom server for dynamic routing, chances are you could remove it altogether!\n3. remove `next-routes` via `yarn remove next-routes` or `npm r -S next-routes`\n\n\n### Differences from `next-routes`\n* Arguments for `routes.add()` differs significantly from `next-routes`. For more information see the [Configuring `routes()`](#configuring-routes) section above.\n    * `name` is now required.\n    * `pattern`, which we call `href`, is a `Next.js` dynamic route path instead of a `path-to-regexp` pattern.\n    * `page`, or the path to the page file, is no longer needed as the file system will always reflect the `href` value.\n\n\n---\n\nBrought to you by [The Fuel Rats!][fuelrats] ⛽🐀\n\n[fuelrats]: https://fuelrats.com/\n[next-routes]: https://github.com/fridays/next-routes\n[nextdocs-dynamic-routes]: https://nextjs.org/docs/routing/dynamic-routes\n[nextdocs-link]: https://nextjs.org/docs/api-reference/next/link\n","licenseText":"BSD 3-Clause License\n\nCopyright (c) 2019, The Fuel Rats Mischief\nAll rights reserved.\n\nRedistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without\nmodification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met:\n\n1. Install via: `yarn add @fuelrats/next-named-routes` or `npm i @fuelrats/next-named-routes`\n2. Structure your `pages` directory for [Next.js dynamic routes][nextdocs-dynamic-routes].\n3. Create a `routes.js` file in your project similar to this:\n\n```javascript\nimport routes from '@fuelrats/next-named-routes'\n\n\n// Destructure what you need\nconst { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter } = routes()\n  .add('about', '/about-us') // define your routes\n  .add('profile', '/profile/[tab]')\n  .add('cms', '/cms/[...cmsPath]')\n\n\n// export what you need\nexport { Link, Router, useRouter, withRouter }\n```\n\n4. Use `<Link />` and `Router` in your application!\n\n\n\n\n\n## Defining routes in your application\n\nIn large applications routes can get long and complex. You can use the `.add()` function to alias your routes into simple names.\n\nRoute definitions are completely optional. You can use a normal `href` value to refer to your page without issue!\n\nto use `.add()`, just tag the function onto the end of your `routes()` call:\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes()\n  .add(name, href)\n```\n\n`.add()` accepts two arguments:\n* **`name`** - The name of your route. This will be used to refer back to the given path. Can be a string or symbol.\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory. Identical to `href` used in `next/link` and `next/router`. Also accepts a [function](#function-routes).\n\nIf successful, it will return the current instance of `routes()` so you can chain route definitions together.\n\nSee [Using `<Link />`](#using-link-) and [Using `Router`](#using-router) below for more details on using defined routes.\n\n\n### Function routes\n\n`.add()` also accepts a callback for ultimate control over how your route definition behaves. This is good for when you want to process objects into path slugs, or if you want to control what page the route leads to based upon the value of a parameter.\n\nThe callback is passed a single parameter:\n\n* **`params`** - object given to `<Link />` or `Router` call\n\nand is expected to return an object with the following properties:\n\n* **`href`** - The path inside your `pages` directory.\n* **`as`** - The path that will be rendered in the browser URL bar.\n* **`query`** - object of parameters to be transformed into a query string (optional)\n\n```javascript\nconst { /* ... */ } = routes()\n.add('forum post', ({ publishDate, slug, ...query }) => {\n  const year = publishDate.getUTCFullYear()\n  const month = publishDate.getUTCMonth()\n  const day = publishDate.getUTCDate()\n\n  return {\n    href: '/forum/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]',\n    as: `/forum/${year}/${month}/${day}/${slug}`,\n    query,\n  }\n})\n```\n\nAnother example:\n\n```javascript\n.add('forum list', ({ category, page, ...query }) => {\n  let href = '/forum'\n  let as = '/forum'\n\n  if (category) {\n    href += '/cat/[category]'\n    href += `/cat/${category}`\n\n    if (page) {\n      href += '/[page]'\n      as += `/${page}`\n    }\n  }\n\n\n  return { href, as, query }\n})\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `<Link />`\n\nThe provided `<Link />` component is a wrapped `next/link` which lets you reference defined routes by their names, and generate the final URL via parameters.\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* All other props of [`next/link`][nextdocs-link], however `href` and `as` are overwritten by `route` if it's defined.\n\n### `route` as a defined route name\n\n```javascript\nimport { Link } from '../routes'\n\nconst Nav = () => (\n  <div>\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum list\">\n      <a>forums</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/forums/[year]/[month]/[day]/[slug]\"\n      *   as=\"/forums/2015/06/01/out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"forum post\" params={{ year: '2015', month: '06', day: '01', slug: 'out-of-fuel-explorer-rescue-service-the-fuel-rats' }}>\n      <a>Forum post</a>\n    </Link>\n\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/cms/[...cmsPath]\"\n      *   as=\"/cms/legal/terms-of-service\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"cms\" params{{ cmsPath: [ 'legal', 'terms-of-service' ] }}>\n        <a>Terms of Service</a>\n    </link>\n  </div>\n)\n)\n```\n\n\n### `route` as a file path\n\nYou can also refer to routes not defined in `routes.js` by using page's path in your `pages` directory.\n\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview' }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n### Handling parameters\n\nThe route compiler is smart about what parameters are used by your dynamic routes. for example:\n\nUnused parameters will be passed as a querystring to your page.\n```javascript\n    {/*\n      * Equivalent to:\n      * <Link\n      *   href=\"/profile/[tab]?welcome=true\"\n      *   as=\"/profile/overview?welcome=true\" />\n      */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ tab: 'overview', welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\nMissing parameters will cause an error.\n```javascript\n    {/* ERROR! \"tab\" is required */}\n    <Link route=\"/profile/[tab]\" params={{ welcome: true }}>\n      <a>Your Profile</a>\n    </Link>\n```\n\n\n\n\n\n## Using `Router`\n\nThe `Router` object ia a modified `next/router` with three additional functions.\n\n* **`.pushRoute()`** - wrapped `.push()`\n* **`.replaceRoute()`** - wrapped `.replace()`\n* **`.prefetchRoute()`** - wrapped `.prefetch()`\n\nAll three accept the same parameters and behave like their `next/router` counterparts\n\n```javascript\nimport Router from '../routes'\n\nRouter.pushRoute(route, params, options)\n```\n\n* **`route`** - Defined route name or a path in your `pages` directory.\n* **`params`** - Parameters used to generate the URL and query string.\n* **`options`** - `next/router` options object.\n\n`route` and `params` arguments accept the same values as the corresponding `<Link />` props above.\n\n\n## Providing a Custom `Link` and `Router`\n\nYou can provide your own `Link` and `Router` instances if you wish to extend functionality futher, however there is one major caveat. the `Router` object **MUST** be an object which provides both the main Router API object and the `useRouter()` hook.\n\n\nPass `Link` and `Router` to routes like the following:\n\n```javascript\nconst RouterObj = {\n  default: CustomRouter\n  useRouter: customRouterHook\n}\n\nconst {Link, Router} = routes(CustomLink, RouterObj)\n```\n\nWhile inconvienent, we require both of these things to be able to provide the wrapped `useRouter()` hook and `withRouter()` HoC.\n\nThe custom `Router` is **NOT** required to pass a custom `Link` component. One can exist without the other.\n\n## Migrating from `next-routes`\n\nComing from [`next-routes`][next-routes]? Welcome! While we do not provide the exact same API, it should feel familiar to use.\n\nThis library is **NOT** a simple drop-in replacement for `next-routes`. Some work is required to transition your route definitions to dynamic route string format, and most advanced regex matches are not possible since `next.js` does not use `path-to-regexp`.\n\n1. Follow the setup as above, making adjustments to your `routes.js` file as needed.\n2. remove `next-routes` from your server router. In most cases this just involves removing the `next-routes` handler wrapper, and the library import itself.\n    - If you only implemented a custom server for dynamic routing, chances are you could remove it altogether!\n3. remove `next-routes` via `yarn remove next-routes` or `npm r -S next-routes`\n\n\n### Differences from `next-routes`\n* Arguments for `routes.add()` differs significantly from `next-routes`. For more information see the [Configuring `routes()`](#configuring-routes) section above.\n    * `name` is now required.\n    * `pattern`, which we call `href`, is a `Next.js` dynamic route path instead of a `path-to-regexp` pattern.\n    * `page`, or the path to the page file, is no longer needed as the file system will always reflect the `href` value.\n\n\n---\n\nBrought to you by [The Fuel Rats!][fuelrats] ⛽🐀\n\n[fuelrats]: https://fuelrats.com/\n[next-routes]: https://github.com/fridays/next-routes\n[nextdocs-dynamic-routes]: https://nextjs.org/docs/routing/dynamic-routes\n[nextdocs-link]: https://nextjs.org/docs/api-reference/next/link\n","readmeFilename":"README.md"}
