For a fixed size, set `height` and `width` and turn `responsive` off in\n`options`.\n\nAny attribute that is not a prop falls through to the underlying ``, so `id`, `class`, `style` and `aria-*`\nwork as you would expect.\n\n> **The chart tracks its props.** Mutate or replace `data` and `options` and it updates itself; change `type`, `height`\n> or `width` and it rebuilds. See [Updating a chart](#updating-a-chart).\n\nEvery prop is reactive. Change one and the chart follows — there is nothing to call:\n\n```javascript\nchart.data.datasets[0].data = [1, 2, 3] // updates\nchart.options.plugins.title = { ... } // updates\nchart.type = 'bar' // rebuilds\n```\n\n`data` and `options` are re-read by an update. `type`, `height` and `width` are fixed when the ChartJS instance is\nbuilt, so changing those rebuilds it. Both are debounced, so a burst of changes costs one update, and changing `height`\nand `width` together rebuilds once.\n\nA `data` change reassigns only the data, so state that plugins keep on `options` survives it — a chart zoomed with\n[`chartjs-plugin-zoom`](https://github.com/chartjs/chartjs-plugin-zoom) holds its range while its data updates.\nChanging `options`, or calling `update()` yourself, replaces the options object and resets that state.\n\n`update()` and the other methods below remain available for driving the chart explicitly.\n\n### Opting out of automatic updates\n\nSet `autoUpdate` to `false` and the chart changes only when you drive it:\n\n```vue\n\n\n\n```\n\nThe watchers are removed rather than left in place behind a condition, so the deep walk over `data` stops costing\nanything. That matters at size: ten mutations of a fifty-thousand-point dataset take around 476ms of watching, and none\nat all with `autoUpdate` off.\n\nIt can be toggled at runtime, and `update()`, `render()`, `resize()` and `destroy()` keep working either way.\n\n## Playground\n\n**[j-t-mcc.github.io/vue3-chartjs](https://j-t-mcc.github.io/vue3-chartjs/)**\n\nAn interactive playground, published from this repository and running the same build that npm installs. Presets cover\nall eight ChartJS chart types, every prop is editable, and the chart follows as you type. `autoUpdate` can be switched\noff there to watch the difference. It will also hand the whole chart back as a config object or as a ready-to-paste\ncomponent.\n\nView the [ChartJS Docs](https://www.chartjs.org/docs/latest/samples/bar/vertical.html) for more chart examples.\n\n## Events\n\nA default event hook plugin is injected into each chart object and emits the\n[ChartJS plugin events](https://www.chartjs.org/docs/latest/developers/plugins.html#plugin-core-api).\n\nEvent listeners are converted to camelcase in Vue 3, so the `beforeRender` hook is listened to as `@before-render`.\n\nEvents marked as \"cancellable\" in the ChartJS documentation can be canceled by calling `preventDefault()` on the event\nparameter. `isDefaultPrevented()` reports whether that has happened, returning `true` once `preventDefault()` has been\ncalled.\n\nCancellation applies to a single emission — the handler is consulted again on the next one, so a conditional guard\nresumes normally once its condition clears:\n\n```js\nconst onBeforeUpdate = (event) => {\n // updates are skipped while loading, and resume by themselves afterwards\n if (isLoading.value) {\n event.preventDefault()\n }\n}\n```\n\nTo suppress a hook for the lifetime of the chart, call `preventDefault()` unconditionally.\n\nThe chart is destroyed automatically when the component unmounts, so `beforeDestroy` and `afterDestroy` fire then as\nwell.\n\n## Methods\n\nA few ChartJS methods are exposed for common interactions, available by reference:\n\n```javascript\nchartRef.value.render()\nchartRef.value.update(mode = 'default')\nchartRef.value.resize()\nchartRef.value.destroy()\n```\n\n`render()` creates the chart, or updates it if one already exists. It runs on mount, so you only need it to rebuild a\nchart you destroyed yourself.\n\n`update()` re-reads the `data` and `options` props and applies them. It takes a ChartJS transition mode: `'default'`,\n`'none'`, `'reset'`, `'resize'`, `'show'`, `'hide'` or `'active'`. Pass `'none'` to apply an update without animating\nit. The prop is read once, when the chart is created, so\nchanging it later has no effect.\n\n```vue\n\n\n\n```\n\n### Global plugins\n\nRegistered with ChartJS and available to every chart. Some plugins require registration. Every prop\nis now watched, so the calls that used to be required are not:\n\n```js\n// v2\ndoughnutChart.data.datasets[0].data = [1, 2, 3]\nchartRef.value.update()\n\n// v3\ndoughnutChart.data.datasets[0].data = [1, 2, 3]\n```\n\n`data` and `options` changes are applied by an update; `type`, `height` and `width` are fixed when the ChartJS instance\nis built, so changing those rebuilds it. Both are debounced, so a burst of changes costs one update.\n\nExisting `update()` calls are harmless and still useful for choosing a transition mode, so nothing has to be removed to\nupgrade — and `:auto-update=\"false\"` restores the v2 behaviour outright if you would rather keep driving the chart\nyourself. Two things are worth knowing:\n\n- `data` is watched deeply. Vue walks the whole structure on each change, which is around 1ms for a thousand points and\n closer to 45ms for fifty thousand. If you render very large datasets and were batching updates deliberately, measure\n before assuming the automatic path is equivalent — or set `:auto-update=\"false\"`, which removes the watchers and the\n walk with them.\n- A `data` change reassigns only the data, so plugin state kept on `options` survives it. Changing `options`, or\n calling `update()` yourself, replaces that object and resets it — a zoomed chart returns to its full range.\n\n### `preventDefault()` applies to one emission\n\nPreviously a single `preventDefault()` call canceled that hook for the lifetime of the chart, because the event object\nwas created once and its flag was never reset. A conditional guard therefore froze the chart permanently the first time\nits condition was true.\n\nIt now applies only to the emission it was called on, and the handler is consulted again next time.\n\n```js\n// v2: ran once, then the hook was canceled forever\nconst onBeforeDraw = (event) => {\n if (isFirstRender) {\n event.preventDefault()\n isFirstRender = false\n }\n}\n\n// v3: to suppress a hook permanently, cancel unconditionally\nconst onBeforeDraw = (event) => {\n event.preventDefault()\n}\n```\n\n### Charts are destroyed on unmount\n\nThe component now destroys its chart in `onBeforeUnmount`. Calling `destroy()` yourself is no longer required, and stays\nsafe if you do. `beforeDestroy`, `afterDestroy`, `uninstall` and `stop` now fire when the component unmounts.\n\n### Replacing a whole prop object works\n\nAssigning a new `data` or `options` object is picked up. In v2 the component held a snapshot taken at setup, so only\nin-place mutation of the original object had any effect.\n\n### `update()` takes a transition mode\n\nChanged in 2.1.0 and repeated here for anyone coming from 2.0: `update()` takes a ChartJS transition mode rather than an\nanimation duration in milliseconds. `update(750)` is silently ignored — set `options.animation.duration` instead.\n\n### Types resolve on modern module resolution\n\nThe package now declares a `types` condition in its `exports` map and references ChartJS types through the public entry\npoint. Consumers on `moduleResolution: \"bundler\"`, `\"node16\"` or `\"nodenext\"` previously got no types at all, or\nsilently degraded to `any` under `skipLibCheck`.
