For the purposes of this definition,\n \"control\" means (i) the power, direct or indirect, to cause the\n direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or\n otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the\n outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity.\n\n \"You\" (or \"Your\") shall mean an individual or Legal Entity\n exercising permissions granted by this License.\n\n \"Source\" form shall mean the preferred form for making modifications,\n including but not limited to software source code, documentation\n source, and configuration files.\n\n \"Object\" form shall mean any form resulting from mechanical\n transformation or translation of a Source form, including but\n not limited to compiled object code, generated documentation,\n and conversions to other media types.\n\n \"Work\" shall mean the work of authorship, whether in Source or\n Object form, made available under the License, as indicated by a\n copyright notice that is included in or attached to the work\n (an example is provided in the Appendix below).\n\n \"Derivative Works\" shall mean any work, whether in Source or Object\n form, that is based on (or derived from) the Work and for which the\n editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications\n represent, as a whole, an original work of authorship. For the purposes\n of this License, Derivative Works shall not include works that remain\n separable from, or merely link (or bind by name) to the interfaces of,\n the Work and Derivative Works thereof.\n\n \"Contribution\" shall mean any work of authorship, including\n the original version of the Work and any modifications or additions\n to that Work or Derivative Works thereof, that is intentionally\n submitted to Licensor for inclusion in the Work by the copyright owner\n or by an individual or Legal Entity authorized to submit on behalf of\n the copyright owner. Description\n\nVitest mocks for Google Maps in TypeScript.\n\n**Note:** If you find a missing mock, please open an [issue][issues].\n\n## NPM\n\nAvailable via NPM as the package `@soleo/googlemap-vitest-mocks`\n\n## Usage\n\nThese mocks need the tests to run in a browser-like environment (for example\n`jest-environment-jsdom`).\n\nBefore running the tests, you have to call the exported `initialize`\nfunction to set up the global namespaces of the mocked Google Maps API:\n\n```ts\nimport { initialize } from \"@soleo/google-maps-vitest-mocks\";\n\nbeforeEach(() => {\n initialize();\n});\n```\n\nYou can then run the test-code that makes use of the Maps API almost as normal.\n\"Almost\" is referring to the fact that the objects are all non-functional and\nsome things you can do with the real maps API cannot be done with the mocks\nlibrary.\n\nWe also export the `mockInstances` object and mocked constructors of all\nclasses (e.g. `Map` or `Marker`) that can be used to retrieve, inspect and\nconfigure the mocks.\n\n```ts\nimport { initialize, Map, Marker, mockInstances } from \"@soleo/google-maps-vitest-mocks\";\n\n// this represents your code being tested\nfunction codeUnderTest() {\n const map = new google.maps.Map(null);\n const markerOne = new google.maps.Marker();\n const markerTwo = new google.maps.Marker();\n\n map.setHeading(8);\n markerOne.setMap(map);\n markerTwo.setLabel(\"My marker\");\n}\n\nbeforeEach(() => {\n initialize();\n});\n\ntest(\"my test\", () => {\n codeUnderTest();\n\n // mockInstances stores the lists of all maps-objects created since\n // `initialize` was called, organized by constructor.\n const mapMocks = mockInstances.get(Map);\n const markerMocks = mockInstances.get(Marker);\n\n expect(mapMocks).toHaveLength(1);\n expect(markerMocks).toHaveLength(2);\n expect(mapMocks[0].setHeading).toHaveBeenCalledWith(8);\n expect(markerMocks[0].setMap).toHaveBeenCalledTimes(1);\n expect(markerMocks[1].setLabel).toHaveBeenCalledWith(\"My marker\");\n\n // note that this will not work (`map.setHeading(8)` will not update any\n // internal state of the map):\n expect(mapMocks[0].getHeading()).toBe(8);\n});\n```\n\n### Testing Events\n\nTo test code that uses events dispatched by Maps API objects, you can\nfollow a pattern like this:\n\n```ts\nimport { mockInstances, Map } from \"./registry\";\n\nlet eventTriggered = false;\n\nfunction codeUnderTest() {\n const map = new google.maps.Map(null);\n const listener = map.addListener(\"bounds_changed\", () => {\n // whatever happens here should be observeable in some way, for the\n // sake of this example, we just set a global variable:\n eventTriggered = true;\n });\n}\n\ntest(\"testing events\", () => {\n // run the code under test, which will register an event-listener\n codeUnderTest();\n\n // since `map.addListener` doesn't actually do anything, we'll have to\n // retrieve the event-handler function and trigger the event ourselves\n const map: google.maps.Map = mockInstances.get(Map);\n const addListener: jest.MockedFunction<typeof map.addListener> =\n map.addListener;\n\n expect(addListener).toHaveBeenCalledTimes(1);\n\n const [eventType, listener] = addListener.mock.lastCall;\n\n // call the listener function (for mouse-events you'd have to create the\n // event-object here as well)\n listener();\n\n // assert that whatever the effect of your code receiving the event happened\n expect(eventTriggered).toBe(true);\n});\n```\n\n### Extending Mocks\n\nThere are situations where you need some more functionality from the mocks\nthan what is provided by this library. In these cases, you can extend the\nexisting mocks.\n\nFor example, if you want to observe the creation of a Map instance to\nvalidate constructor-arguments, you can add a spy function like this:\n\n```ts\nlet createMapSpy: jest.Mock<\n void,\n ConstructorParameters<typeof google.maps.Map>\n>;\n\nbeforeEach(() => {\n initialize();\n\n createMapSpy = jest.fn();\n\n // overwrite the mock implementation with an anonymous class\n google.maps.Map = class extends google.maps.Map {\n constructor(...args: ConstructorParameters<typeof google.maps.Map>) {\n createMapSpy(...args);\n super(...args);\n }\n };\n});\n\ntest(\"map constructor\", () => {\n const mapOptions = { mapId: \"abcd\" };\n const map = new google.maps.Map(null, mapOptions);\n\n expect(createMapSpy).toHaveBeenCalledWith(null, mapOptions);\n});\n```\n\nSo essentially, you can overwrite the classes in the global `google.maps`\nnamespace with your own classes extending the existing ones. The `initialize`\nfunction will always restore them to their initial state.\n\n### Mocking Services\n\nIf your code is interacting with services provided by the Maps API, you can\ncontrol the results that will be returned when calling the methods of the\nservice. First you need to get the service instance that was created by\nyour code using the `mockInstances` registry:\n\n```ts\nimport {\n initialize,\n AutocompleteService,\n mockInstances,\n} from \"@googlemaps/jest-mocks\";\n\nbeforeEach(() => {\n initialize();\n});\n\ntest(\"...\", () => {\n // [... do something that creates a google.maps.AutocompleteService instance]\n\n const [serviceMock] = mockInstances.get(AutocompleteService);\n expect(serviceMock.getPlacePredictions).toHaveBeenCalled();\n});\n```\n\nNote that the imported `AutocompleteService` and\n`google.maps.places.AutocompleteService` are the same object.\nThe only difference is that the former one is known to be the mocked version\n(so you can access the mock-interface without type-errors when writing tests\nin TS.\n\nSince the mocked methods are created in the constructor of the mocked\n`AutocompleteService`, we can't overwrite the behavior of the methods before\nthe constructor has been called.\n\nIf the creation of the AutocompleteService is separated from it's usage,\nthis is relatively easy:\n\n```ts\n// assuming your class under test looks like this:\nclass MyAutocomplete {\n constructor() {\n this.service = new google.maps.places.AutocompleteService();\n }\n\n async update() {\n const res = await this.service.getPlacePredictions();\n }\n}\n\n// configure the mocks after the constructor has been called:\ntest(\"...\", async () => {\n const subject = new MyAutocomplete();\n\n const [serviceMock] = mockInstances.get(AutocompleteService);\n serviceMock.getPlacePredictions.mockImplementation(() => {\n return {\n // whatever you want the return-value to be\n };\n });\n\n // now call the method under test\n await subject.update();\n\n // validate the outcome\n});\n```\n\nThe same applies if you can somehow separate the creation of the service-object\nfrom its usage, for example, by monkey-patching it in the tests:\n\n```ts\ntest(\"...\", async () => {\n const subject = new MyAutocomplete();\n\n // this is assuming that `subject.update()` will internally call a method\n // `this.createAutocompleteService()` when called.\n subject.createAutocompleteService = jest.fn(() => {\n const svc = new AutocompleteService();\n\n // configure mocked methods as above\n\n return svc;\n });\n\n await subject.update();\n});\n```\n\nBoth of these solutions are probably more of an antipattern, since they\nexpose implementation details (like the `service` property or the\n`createAutocompleteService` method) to the test, making it harder to change\nthe implementation without updating the test.\n\nThe recommended way is to achieve this is to replace the `AutocompleteService`\nclass entirely to get full control over its behavior in your tests:\n\n```ts\nconst getPlacePredictionsMock = jest.fn();\nclass MockAutocompleteService extends AutocompleteService {\n constructor() {\n super();\n\n this.getPlacePredictions = getPlacePredictionsMock;\n }\n}\n\ntest(\"...\", () => {\n google.maps.places.AutocompleteService = MockAutocompleteService;\n getPlacePredictions.mockImplementation(() => {\n return { ... };\n });\n\n // run your test\n});\n```\n\n### Cleaning up mocks\n\nWhenever `initialize()` is called, the captured mocks are automatically cleaned. Using any of Jest's methods, you can clean the mock instances at any time:\n\n```ts\nimport { initialize, Map, Marker, mockInstances } from \"@googlemaps/jest-mocks\";\n\nbeforeAll(() => {\n initialize();\n});\n\n// Clear all mocks\nbeforeEach(() => {\n mockInstances.clearAll();\n});\n\n// Clear specific mocks\nbeforeEach(() => {\n mockInstances.clear(Map, Marker);\n});\n```\n\n## Support\n\nThis library is community supported. We're comfortable enough with the stability and features of\nthe library that we want you to build real production applications on it.\n\nIf you find a bug, or have a feature suggestion, please [log an issue][issues]. For the purposes of this definition, \"submitted\"\n means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent\n to the Licensor or its representatives, including but not limited to\n communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems,\n and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, the\n Licensor for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but\n excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise\n designated in writing by the copyright owner as \"Not a Contribution.\"\n\n \"Contributor\" shall mean Licensor and any individual or Legal Entity\n on behalf of whom a Contribution has been received by Licensor and\n subsequently incorporated within the Work.\n\n 2. Grant of Copyright License. Subject to the terms and conditions of\n this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,\n worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable\n copyright license to reproduce, prepare Derivative Works of,\n publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute the\n Work and such Derivative Works in Source or Object form.\n\n 3. Grant of Patent License. Subject to the terms and conditions of\n this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,\n worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable\n (except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made,\n use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work,\n where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable\n by such Contributor that are necessarily infringed by their\n Contribution(s) alone or by combination of their Contribution(s)\n with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. Unless You explicitly state otherwise,\n any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work\n by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of\n this License, without any additional terms or conditions.\n Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify\n the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed\n with Licensor regarding such Contributions.\n\n 6. This License does not grant permission to use the trade\n names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor,\n except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the\n origin of the Work and reproducing the content of the NOTICE file.\n\n 7.
