`waitUntilChange`)\n-   Faking XHR (`waitUntilXhrExists`, `findXhr`, `resolveWithJson`)\n-   Faking Fetch API (`waitUntilFetchExists`, `fetchRespond`)\n\n## Overview\n\nThis library contains a bunch of helper methods that greatly simplify asynchronous unit and acceptance \ntesting of front end web apps with Mocha. It also includes two different \nways to stub server calls: one for when using window.fetch, and another for using regular XHR.\n\nThe core of this library is a set of Ember-inspired asynchronous acceptance testing tools \nlike `visit`, `click`, `waitUntilExists` and `andThen` among others.\n\nA noteworthy aspect is that while Ember and others have changed \ntheir networking testing tools (for testing XHR and/or Fetch) to \nrequire the setting up the network responses prior to the actual \nnetwork calls, this library simply catches all network requests and \nlets you deal with them after the fact.\n\nSo instead of this (in pseudo-code):\n\n```js\nset up mock response for endpoint\nrun code that will call the endpoint \nverify results\n```\n\nyou would do this: \n\n```js\nrun code that will call the endpoint\ntrigger mock response to endpoint call \nverify results\n```\n\nSee Examples below for actual code. \n\nWe have found this order of things reads much more naturally. \nIt also greatly simplify testing of pending states and enable a \nsmoother way to verify that the correct network requests are being made \nin the first place.\n\n## Compatibility\n\nFor testing with Mocha. Currently only runs in browsers, see \n[issue #1](https://github.com/acastSthlm/acast-test-helpers/issues/1). \n\n## Example\n\n```js\nimport {\n  setupAndTeardownApp,\n  asyncIt as it,\n  startFakingXhr,\n  stopFakingXhr,\n  visit,\n  click,\n  waitUntilExists,\n  andThen,\n  waitUntilXhrExists,\n  setupFakeFetchAsync,\n  waitUntilFetchExists,\n} from 'acast-test-helpers';\nimport { createMemoryHistory } from 'react-router';\nimport renderMyApp from 'renderMyApp.js';\n\ndescribe('my app', () => {\n  setupAndTeardownApp(renderMyApp, createMemoryHistory);\n\n  describe('with basic acceptance testing', () => {\n    it('shows greeting when I click the hello button on the say-hello page', () => {\n      visit('/say-hello');\n\n      click('.hello-button'); // This will wait for the button to show up, and then click it. Any jQuery selector will work.\n\n      waitUntilExists('.greeting'); // After the click has been performed, this will start looking for the greeting.\n\n      andThen(greeting => { // When the greeting appears, it will be passed as the single argument to the function passed to the following `andThen` call.\n        expect(greeting.text()).to.equal('Hello World!'); // `greeting` is a jQuery object.\n      });\n    });\n  });\n\n\n  describe('with fake XHR', () => {\n    beforeEach(startFakingXhr);\n    afterEach(stopFakingXhr);\n\n    it('displays the number of eggs we currently have on the server (using regular XHR)', () => {\n      visit('/eggs');\n\n      waitUntilXhrExists('GET', '/api/v1/eggs');\n\n      andThen(request => {\n        request.respondWithJson(200, {\n          eggCount: 42,\n        });\n      });\n\n      waitUntilExists('.egg-counter:contains(\"42\")');\n    });\n  });\n\n\n  describe('with fake fetch', () => {\n    setupFakeFetchAsync();\n\n    it('shows the color of the day (using Fetch API)', () => {\n      visit('/color');\n\n      waitUntilFetchExists('/api/v1/color');\n\n      andThen(fetchRequest => {\n        fetchRequest.resolveWith(200, {\n          color: '#65a1e7'\n        });\n      });\n\n      waitUntil(() => expect(find('.color-of-the-day').css('background-color')).to.equal('#65a1e7'));\n    });\n  });\n});\n```\n\n## Installation\n\n`npm install --save-dev --save-exact acast-test-helpers`\nor the shorter\n`npm i -DE acast-test-helpers`\n\n## API\n\n<!-- Generated by documentation.js. Update this documentation by updating the source code. -->\n\n### setupAndTeardownApp\n\nThis adds the necessary `beforeEach` and `afterEach` calls to set up and tear down the entire application\nbetween each test method, for acceptance testing.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `renderAppIntoElementWithHistory` **[function](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/function)** The function that will render your app.\n    It will be passed two arguments: the element to render the app into, and the history that will be used.\n-   `createHistory` **[function](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/function)?** When called without arguments, this functions should return the history instance to\n    use. This instance will then be passed as the second argument to renderAppIntoElementWithHistory (optional, default `()=>{}`)\n-   `unrenderAppFromElement` **[function](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/function)?** This will be called when your app should be torn down and removed from the DOM.\n    It will receive as only argument the same element that was passed to renderAppIntoElementWithHistory. (optional, default `root=>{}`)\n\n### scaleWindowWidth\n\nUsed for testing reactions to window resize events.\nThe test root div starts at 1024 pixels and can be scaled up or down with this method.\nWill trigger a resize event on the `window` object.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `scale` **[number](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Number)** The scale by which to multiply the current width of the test root div.\n\n### visit\n\nTriggers a route change in your app by pushing to the history.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `route` It waits by polling the function repeatedly.\nThis is very useful for verifying test results, among other things.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `thisReturnsTruthy` **[function](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/function)** The function to poll.\n-   `errorMessage` **([string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String) \\| [function](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/function))** The string, or function returning a string, to be shown if this times out. (optional, default `` `acast-test-helpers#waitUntil() timed out since the following function never returned a truthy value within the timeout: ${thisReturnsTruthy}` ``)\n\n**Examples**\n\n```javascript\nwaitUntil(() => expect(foobar).to.equal(3)); // This will either pass as the expectation holds and is returned as truthy, or keep polling.\n```\n\n```javascript\nwaitUntil(() => 3);\nandThen(value => {\n  // value = 3\n});\n```\n\n### waitMillis\n\nWaits a specific number of milliseconds.\nNOTE: Using this method is highly discouraged for anything other than temporary\nexperiments. The reason is that it leads to either very long running or non-deterministic tests,\nnone of which is desirable.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `milliseconds` **[number](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Number)** The number of milliseconds to wait.\n\n### waitUntilChange\n\nWaits until a function gives a different return value from one call to the next.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `predicate` **[function](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/function)** The function to be polled.\n-   `errorMessage` **([string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String) \\| [function](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/function))** The string, or function returning a string, to be shown if this times out. (optional, default `` `acast-test-helpers#waitUntilChange() timed out since the return value of the following function never changed: ${predicate}` ``)\n\n**Examples**\n\n```javascript\nlet foo = 'something';\nwaitUntilChange(() => foo);\nandThen(theNewValueOfFoo => {\n  console.log(theNewValueOfFoo); // 'something else'\n});\nsetTimeout(() => {\n  foo = 'something else';\n}, 1000);\n```\n\n### setupFakeFetchAsync\n\nConvenience method to set up everything needed to use fake fetch in an async environment.\nCalls [setupAsync](#setupasync), [setupFakeFetch](#setupfakefetch) and [teardownFakeFetch](#teardownfakefetch).\n\nUse this by calling it once on top of the appropriate `describe`.\n\n### waitUntilFetchExists\n\n-   **See: [waitUntilXhrExists](#waituntilxhrexists)**\n\nWaits until a fetch call has been made, and resolves with the same return value as in [fetchRespond](#fetchrespond).\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `path` **[string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String)** The fetched path to wait for. Same as in [fetchRespond](#fetchrespond).\n\n**Examples**\n\n```javascript\nwaitUntilFetchExists('/api/user/1337');\nandThen(request => {\n  request.resolveWith(200, {\n    id: 1337,\n    name: 'Fire'\n  });\n});\n```\n\n### setupFakeFetch\n\nReplaces the global `window.fetch` function with a fake one to intercept any calls to fetch, and enable the\ntools in this module.\nShould be called before each test method that wants to fake fetch.\n\n### teardownFakeFetch\n\nRestores the original `window.fetch` method and tears down what was set up with [setupFakeFetch](#setupfakefetch).\nShould be called after each test method before which [setupFakeFetch](#setupfakefetch) was called.\n\n### fetchRespond\n\nResolve to a previously intercepted fetch call.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `path` **[string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String)** The path of the previous fetch call to respond to.\n\n**Examples**\n\n```javascript\nfetchRespond('/api/user/1337').resolveWith(200, {\n  id: 1337,\n  name: 'Fire'\n});\n```\n\nReturns **{resolveWith: (function (any?, any?)), rejectWith: (function (any?))}** An object with two methods:\n`resolveWith` and `rejectWith`. Most often you want to use `resolveWith`, since even HTTP errors such as 404 will\nresult in a resolved fetch promise. `resolveWith` takes two arguments: the HTTP status, and the JSON return value.\n\n### startFakingXhr\n\nReplaces the real XMLHttpRequest constructor with a fake one to intercept any subsequent XHR call.\n\n### stopFakingXhr\n\nRestores the real XMLHttpRequest constructor to the original one that was replaced by [startFakingXhr](#startfakingxhr).\n\n### findXhr\n\nFinds a previously made and still unresolved XHR request.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `method` **[string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String)** A string representing what HTTP Method of the request to find, like 'GET' or 'POST'\n-   `url` **[string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String)** The complete url, including any query string, of the request to find\n\nReturns **([FakeRequest](#fakerequest) | null)** The matching [FakeRequest](#fakerequest), or null if no matching request was found.\n\n### waitUntilXhrExists\n\n-   **See: [waitUntilFetchExists](#waituntilfetchexists)**\n\nAsynchronous version of [findXhr](#findxhr).\nWaits until the matched XHR request shows up, and then passes it to the next asynchronous function.\nIf the test times out while waiting for the request to show up, a helpful error message will show which requests\nwhere active.\n\n**Parameters**\n\n-   `method` **[string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String)** Same as in [findXhr](#findxhr)\n-   `url` **[string](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String)** Same as in [findXhr](#findxhr)\n\n**Examples**\n\n```javascript\nwaitUntilXhrExists('GET', '/api/user/1337');\nandThen(request => {\n  request.respondWithJson(200, {\n    id: 1337,\n    name: 'Fire'\n  });\n});\n```\n\n### FakeRequest\n\nExtends [FakeXMLHttpRequest](https://github.com/pretenderjs/FakeXMLHttpRequest) to register each new request with fakehr\n\nAlso has the convenience method `respondWithJson` that takes two arguments:\nthe HTTP status code as an int (optional, defaults to 200), and the response body as a plain object (also optional)\n","maintainers":[{"name":"emilnordh","email":"me@emilnordh.se"},{"name":"mitchal","email":"mikael.brandt90@gmail.com"}],"time":{"modified":"2022-06-13T02:21:00.084Z","created":"2017-06-13T14:54:36.933Z","10.0.0":"2017-06-13T14:54:36.933Z","10.0.1":"2017-06-13T15:12:32.512Z","10.0.2":"2017-06-13T15:17:46.084Z","10.0.3":"2017-06-13T15:21:51.559Z","10.0.4":"2017-06-13T15:23:40.572Z","10.0.5":"2017-06-13T15:30:53.578Z","10.0.6":"2017-06-13T15:45:46.733Z","9.0.0":"2017-06-19T07:09:52.834Z","7.4.1":"2017-06-21T06:22:27.400Z","8.0.0":"2017-06-21T06:28:58.591Z","11.0.0":"2017-06-21T06:35:33.464Z","11.1.0":"2017-10-04T10:08:40.836Z","11.1.1":"2017-10-04T10:20:28.701Z","11.1.2":"2017-12-07T09:22:04.886Z","11.1.3":"2017-12-07T10:30:54.328Z","12.0.0":"2018-01-12T10:21:48.748Z","12.0.1":"2018-01-12T11:31:12.508Z","13.0.0":"2018-01-12T15:52:24.263Z","13.0.1":"2018-01-16T09:36:32.325Z","13.1.0":"2018-01-26T10:45:45.046Z","14.0.0":"2018-03-02T14:25:29.391Z","14.1.0":"2018-03-05T10:12:58.233Z"},"keywords":["test helpers","asynchronous","acceptance","unit"],"readmeFilename":"README.md","homepage":"https://github.com/acastSthlm/acast-test-helpers#readme","repository":{"type":"git","url":"git+https://github.com/acastSthlm/acast-test-helpers.git"},"bugs":{"url":"https://github.com/acastSthlm/acast-test-helpers/issues"},"license":"GPL-3.0"}
