objects. The primary use-case is\ncreating a set of map-related objects (i.e. each of them having its latitude,\nlongitude and data), followed with a queries to find objects in given area\n(exact match / rectangular area / circle area).\n\nThe existing code we used for this purpose originally (that was part of (one of\nthe many available) google map directives) was not performant enough\n(it scanned the whole set of objects sequentially each time), so our goal was to\nspeed the find queries using some clever data structures and algorithms.\n\nAfter some prototyping and testing, we decided to wrap our `GeoTree`\nimplementation around red-black binary search trees using z-curve algorithm for\nconverting 2D plane coordinates into scalar index (and using this index as the\nnumeric key in underlaying red-black tree).\n\nThis way, the `find()` operation doesn't need to go through the whole list, but\nwe can eliminate a lot of items for which we know in advance that we don't need\nto consider them based on provided search criteria.\n\nSo when using hundreds or thousands or even more objects in your map application\nand having performance issues, may find this library very useful.\n\n## Installation\n\n```\n$ npm i geo-tree\n```\n\n## API\n\n### Constructor\n\nThe `GeoTree` constructor function is the only exported library symbol.  \nYou require it as:\n```\nconst GeoTree = require('geo-tree');\n```\n\nTo create new empty set (tree), do:\n```\nconst set = new GeoTree();\n```\n\n### Insert\n\nTo insert geo-related items into the `set`, use `insert()` function. Each\ninserted item must have latitude `lat`, longitude `lng`, and associated data\n`data`.\n\nSupported ranges:\n* `lat`: `-90.0` .. `+90.0`\n* `lng`: `-180.0` .. `+180.0`\n* `data`: any value\n\nAssume we want to insert:\n```\nlat: 48.85886, lng:  2.34706, data: 'Paris, France'\nlat: 52.50754, lng: 13.42614, data: 'Berlin, Germany'\nlat: 50.05967, lng: 14.46562, data: 'Prague, Czech Republic'\n```\n\nFunction `insert()` can be invoked with single parameter: object\n```\n{\n  lat: ...,\n  lng: ...,\n  data: ...\n}\n```\n\nSo you would invoke it 3 times to insert the above 3 items, inserting one each\ntime, e.g. to insert Paris, you'd do:\n```\nset.insert({lat: 48.85886, lng: 2.34706, data: 'Paris, France'});\n```\n\nFor bulk insert, you can pass an array of the above mentioned objects, they will\nbe inserted sequentially. So to insert all 3 of them in one `insert()`\ninvocation, you'd do:\n```\nset.insert([\n  {lat: 48.85886, lng:  2.34706, data: 'Paris, France'},\n  {lat: 52.50754, lng: 13.42614, data: 'Berlin, Germany'},\n  {lat: 50.05967, lng: 14.46562, data: 'Prague, Czech Republic'}\n]);\n```\n\nLast option is to pass `lat`, `lng` and `data` as 3 arguments to `insert()`,\nwhich will insert one item with associated coordinates and data. E.g. to insert\nPrague, you'd do:\n```\nset.insert(50.05967, 14.46562, 'Prague, Czech Republic');\n```\n\nThere is no need to have unique `lat`, `lng` pairs when inserting the items.\n\n### Find\n\nTo find items based on some geographical relation, use `find()` function. The\nfunction returns *array* of `data` fields of inserted items.\n\nThe order in which you'll get the found items in the resulting array is\ndetermined by underlaying red-black tree, so do not expect to see the `data`\nfields to be in any specific order.\n\nWith no argument, i.e. `set.find()`, the function returns array of the `data`\nfield of *all* the inserted items.\n\n```\nset.find();\n// --> ['Prague, Czech Republic', 'Paris, France', 'Berlin, Germany']\n```\n\nSpecifying single object argument `{lat: ..., lng: ...}`, the function returns\n`data` fields of items that match the position exactly.\n\n```\nset.find({lat: 48.85886, lng: 2.34706});\n// --> ['Paris, France']\n```\n\nYou can pass two `lat`/`lng` objects to `find()`, in which case it will return\n`data` fields of the items in rectangle defined by the two coordinates (the\narguments are treated as two diagonal vertices of a rectangle).\n\n```\nset.find({lat: 45, lng: 0}, {lat: 55, lng: 14});\n// --> ['Paris, France', 'Berlin, Germany']\n```\n\nFinally, you can pass one `lat`/`lng` object, a float number, and optionally a\nstring. These parameters are making up a circle (with provided center and\nradius) in which you search for the items. If you don't provide the third string\nargument, the units for the provided radius value are native to latitude and\nlongitude (i.e. angle degrees). If you want to specify different units for\nradius, select one of the following: `m` for meters, `km` for kilometers, `yd`\nfor yards, and `mi` for miles. In case you pass any other string, it is ignored\nand the value is not converted.\n\n```\nset.find({lat: 51, lng: 14}, 2.0);\n// --> ['Prague, Czech Republic', 'Berlin, Germany']\n\nset.find({lat: 51, lng: 17}, 200.0, 'mi');\n// --> ['Prague, Czech Republic', 'Berlin, Germany']\n```\n\n### Iteration over all items\n\n`GeoTree` supports `forEach` method to which you pass a callback that takes\nsingle argument. We iterate over all items in the set and invoke provided\ncallback, passing `data` field of the item.\n\n```\nset.forEach(function(data) { console.log(data); });\n/* prints to console:\n     Paris, France\n     Prague, Czech Republic\n     Berlin, Germany\n*/\n```\n\nSame as for the `find()` method: the order passed `data` items to the callback\nis determined by underlaying red-black tree structure, so do not expect to see\nthe callbacks invoked in any particular order.\n\n### For debugging: dump    \n\nFor debugging purposes and for the purposes of unit tests, there is `dump()`\nmethod that either prints the internal representation of the current stored set\nto the console (no argument, or falsey argument passed), or generates a string\nthat describes the the tree (single truthy argument passed).\n\n## Working from source code\n\n```\n$ git clone git@github.com:salsita/geo-tree.git\n$ cd geo-tree\n$ npm i\n$ npm test\n```\n\nEslint is used for linting the source code, and jest as the test runner.
