message-format\n\n> Intl.MessageFormat prollyfill supporting ICU message format\n\n[![npm Version][npm-image]][npm]\n[![JS Standard Style][style-image]][style]\n\n\nQuick Start\n-----------\n\n`npm install message-format --save` adds the library to `node_modules`. You can\nthen use it as follows:\n\n```js\nvar MessageFormat = require('message-format');\n\nvar message = new MessageFormat('en-US', 'Hello { place }!');\nvar formatted = message.format({ place:'World' });\n```\n\nThe library works great with tools like browserify and webpack for use in\nfront-end code. Also check out [format-message][format-message] for an\nalternative API and inlining translations at build time.\n\nNote: message-format relies on `Intl.NumberFormat` and `Intl.DateTimeFormat`\nfor formatting `number`, `date`, and `time` arguments. If you are in an\nenvironment missing these (like node <= 0.12, IE < 11, or Safari < 10) you'll\nneed to use a [polyfill][intl]. If `Intl` formats are missing, an error occurs\nwhen formatting these arguments.\n\n\nOverview\n--------\n\nThe [ICU Message Format][icu-message] is a great format for user-visible\nstrings, and includes simple placeholders, number and date placeholders, and\nselecting among submessages for gender and plural arguments. The format is\nused in apis in [C++][icu-cpp], [PHP][icu-php], and [Java][icu-java].\n\nmessage-format is intended as a polyfill for the yet to be standardized\n`Intl.MessageFormat` api. Since there is only a [strawman proposal][proposal]\nat this point, this library represents only one possible way the standard api\ncould eventually work, hence \"prollyfill\".\n\n### Loading locale data\n\nmessage-format supports plural rules for all CLDR languages. Locale-aware\nformatting of number, date, and time are delegated to the `Intl` objects,\nand select is the same across all locales. You don't need to load any extra\nfiles for particular locales for message-format.\n\n### Supported ICU Formats\n\n* `number` - `percent`, `currency`\n* `date` - `short`, `medium`, `long`, `full`\n* `time` - `short`, `medium`, `long`, `full`\n* `plural`\n* `selectordinal`\n* `select`\n\n### Unsupported ICU Formats\n\n`ordinal`, `duration`, and `spellout` arguments are supported by the parser,\nbut just act like `number`. These are not supported by `Intl.NumberFormat`.\nThey require a lot of language-specific code, and would make the library\nundesireably large.
