\n\n# REINS Method\n\n**One install. Every project. Any AI agent.**\n\nA structured, SPEC-first AI pair programming workflow that lives in your home\ndirectory — never inside your repos — and activates automatically in every\nproject you open, with any supported AI agent.\n\n---\n\n## The problem with AI pair programming today\n\nMost AI coding setups break down in one of three ways:\n\n- **Config drift** — `CLAUDE.md`, `.github/copilot-instructions.md`, `AGENTS.md`\n scattered across every repo. Out of sync, leaked into commits, duplicated endlessly.\n- **Agent lock-in** — your workflow is tied to one tool. Switching agents means\n rebuilding your setup from scratch.\n- **No structure** — the agent runs ahead of you. It skips planning, jumps to\n implementation, and ignores your standards. You spend more time correcting than\n coding.\n\nREINS solves all three.\n\n---\n\n## What you get\n\n- **Automatic wiring, zero per-project setup** — install once in `~/.reins/` and\n every project you open gets the full workflow automatically. REINS wires itself into each\nAI agent's *global* config (`~/.claude/CLAUDE.md`, `~/.gemini/GEMINI.md`, etc.),\nso every project you open automatically gets the workflow. One install covers\nevery project on the machine, with every supported agent.\n\n### Why does the installer need Node?\n\nOnly the *installer* uses Node, for the arrow-key menus. Everything you run\nafterwards — `reins update`, `reins sync`, `reins new-adapter`, etc. — is plain\nbash with no runtime dependencies. If you\ninstall a new agent later, run `reins link-agents` to add it without a full\n`reins update`.\n\n---\n\n## Your data stays on your machine\n\nEverything inside `~/.reins/user/` — your standards, adapters, skills, task\ncontexts, specs, and historic records — lives exclusively on your machine.\nREINS is a local tool: it reads and writes local files, makes no network\nrequests, and sends no data anywhere. The authors of REINS have no access to\nany of your configuration or history.\n\n---\n\n## Uninstalling\n\n```bash\nreins uninstall\n```\n\nThis unwires REINS from all configured agents and removes the CLI. By default,\n`~/.reins/` is left intact — your standards, adapters, skills, and project\ncontexts are preserved.
