It is also an acronym of **Se**arch **R**equests **A**PI for TypeORM's **Fi**nd **M**ethod.\r\n\r\n### What is the purpose of this package?\r\n\r\nThis package aims to facilitate fetching custom data when using TypeORM, providing an API to make dynamic queries using JSON.\r\n\r\n### Instalation\r\n\r\n```\r\nnpm install --save serafim\r\n```\r\n\r\n### 🔒 Security release (hardening within 3.x)\r\n\r\n`3.0.0` and every `2.x` release are vulnerable to **prototype pollution** through a\r\nfield path (`{\"field\": \"__proto__.polluted\"}`), to **memory exhaustion** from a small\r\nfilter (an `AND` of thirty two-way `OR`s is ~2 KB of JSON and 2^30 conditions), and to\r\n**filter bypasses** where a client-supplied filter cancelled a server-side condition.\r\n`2.x` additionally builds SQL by string concatenation and is open to **SQL injection**:\r\nupgrade, do not patch around it.\r\n\r\nThis release fixes those and bounds what an untrusted expression can cost:\r\n\r\n- **Field paths are validated.** `__proto__`, `constructor` and `prototype` segments,\r\n  empty segments, non-string fields and paths longer than `maxPathDepth` (10) throw — in\r\n  `getWhere`, `getRelations` and `getOrder`.\r\n- **The expansion is bounded** by `maxConditions` (100), `maxValues` (10000),\r\n  `maxDepth` (64), `maxPathDepth` (10) and `maxRelations` (16), each overridable per\r\n  call: `getWhere(expression, { maxConditions: 500 })`. Expressions that used to be\r\n  accepted may now throw — use `IN` for value lists, or raise the limit.\r\n- **A server-side condition survives a client filter.** Two conditions on the same\r\n  field are now both applied (TypeORM `And(...)`) instead of the last one silently\r\n  winning; `null` / `undefined` / empty `AND()` entries no longer empty out an `AND`\r\n  (which used to return `{}` — every row); an empty `OR()` can never match, so\r\n  `getWhere` throws instead of matching everything.\r\n- **Stricter values.** An unknown `operation` throws (including inherited names such as\r\n  `constructor`), `searchTerm` must be a scalar, and `sortOrder` must be `\"ASC\"`,\r\n  `\"DESC\"`, `\"unsorted\"`, `1` or `-1` — normalized, since TypeORM reads a `\"Desc\"` as\r\n  ascending.\r\n- **`typeorm` moved to `peerDependencies`**, so your app's copy is the one Serafim builds\r\n  operators for; a duplicated copy made TypeORM skip column transformers.\r\n- **New:** `getFields(expression)` lists the field paths an expression references, for\r\n  checking them against an allowlist.\r\n\r\nSee [Security & limits](./docs/security.md) for the full list, and\r\n[Migrating to v3](./docs/migration-to-v3.md) for the behavior changes.\r\n\r\n### ⚠️ Upgrading to 3.0.0 (may be breaking)\r\n\r\n`3.0.0` is a major release and **may break existing code**. If you already combined\r\nconditions explicitly with `AND(...)` / `OR(...)` and passed valid inputs, the\r\ngenerated queries are equivalent and you likely need no changes. Otherwise, review:\r\n\r\n- **Bare arrays are no longer accepted.** `getWhere([a, b])` / `getRelations([a, b])`\r\n  now throw. Combine conditions explicitly with `AND(...)` (all must match) or\r\n  `OR(...)` (any may match). A single condition can still be passed on its own.\r\n- **Values are bound as query parameters** (TypeORM's native `Equal`, `In`, `Like`,\r\n  `Between`, … operators) instead of being interpolated into raw SQL. This prevents\r\n  SQL injection; the matched rows are unchanged for valid inputs.\r\n- **Null / boolean operators were cleaned up:** `NULL` / `IS` → `IS NULL`, `NOT` →\r\n  `IS NOT NULL`, `TRUE` / `FALSE` → `IS TRUE` / `IS FALSE`, and a `searchTerm: null`\r\n  is shorthand for `IS NULL`. The first is to write queries using raw SQL, which uses the query method. The second way is to use the find method and specify the params. In both ways one would have to write an API, either to write custom raw SQL, either to customize the params. Passing a bare array throws.\r\n\r\nWith pure TypeORM, you need to know in advance what relations will be used in order to fetch custom data, whereas with Serafim, you just type what you need to fetch. With Serafim it is much easier as you can see!\r\n\r\n### Combining conditions (AND / OR)\r\n\r\nA bare array is not accepted and throws: combine conditions with `AND(...)` (all must\r\nmatch) or `OR(...)` (any may match). Both are first-class combinators that can be\r\nnested (up to `maxDepth`, 64 levels by default):\r\n\r\n```jsx\r\nimport { AND, OR, getWhere } from \"serafim\";\r\n\r\nconst where = AND(\r\n\t{ field: \"person.address.state\", searchTerm: \"NY\" },\r\n\tOR(\r\n\t\t{ field: \"profilePicture.id\", searchTerm: 1 },\r\n\t\t{ field: \"profilePicture.id\", searchTerm: 2 }\r\n\t)\r\n);\r\n\r\nuserRepository.find({\r\n\trelations: getRelations(where),\r\n\twhere: getWhere(where),\r\n});\r\n```\r\n\r\n`getWhere(expression, options?)` returns `{}` when the expression holds no condition\r\n(`undefined`, `null`, or only empty groups), a single condition object when there is one\r\nresult, or an array of objects (an OR set) for multiple results. Inside a group, `null` /\r\n`undefined` entries and empty `AND()` groups are skipped; an empty `OR()` can never\r\nmatch, so an expression that depends on one throws.
