This defaults to `\"\"`\n\n### `options.host`\n\ntype: `String`, default: `\"\"`\n\nThe hostname where stats should be send. Defaults to\n    `\"localhost\"`\n\n### `options.port`\n\ntype: `Number`, default: `8125`\n\nThe port where stats should be send. Defaults to `8125`\n\n### `options.socket_timeout`\n\ntype: `Number`, default: `1000`\n\nThe UDP socket will auto-close if it has not been written to\n    within the socket_timeout period. Defaults to `1000`\n    milliseconds.\n\nIf `socket_timeout` is set to `0` then the UDP socket will never\n    auto close.\n\n### `options.highWaterMark`\n\ntype: `Number`, default: `100`\n\nThe UDP socket implementation has an internal `highWaterMark`.\n    There is a known issue in node core where it will buffer\n    packets being written to the UDP socket if it's currently\n    in the \"resolving DNS host\" state.\n\nWhen the `highWaterMark` is reached all packets are dropped\n    and ignored.\n\n### `options.packetQueue`\n\n```ocaml\n{\n    block?: Number,\n    flush?: Number,\n    trailingNewLine?: Boolean\n}\n```\n\nThe UDP socket uses an internal packet queue that can be\n    configured.\n\nThe semantics of the packet queue is that it will write to\n    the UDP socket if it has buffered at least `block` amount\n    of bytes OR it has elapsed at least `flush` amount of\n    milliseconds.\n\nBy default the packet queue will join multiple messages with\n    a new line. It will also append a trailing new line,\n    however you can opt out of the trailing new line by setting\n    `trailingNewLine` field to `false`.\n\nThe `block` field defaults to `1440` bytes.\nThe `flush` field defaults to `1000` milliseconds.\nThe `trailingNewLine` field defaults to `true`.\n\n### `options.dnsResolver`\n\n```ocaml\n{\n    timeToLive?: Number,\n    seedIP?: String,\n    backoffSettings?: {\n        maxDelay?: Number,\n        minDelay?: Number,\n        retries?: Number,\n        factor?: Number\n    }\n}\n```\n\nThe UDP socket will optionally use a DNS resolver to resolve\n    DNS once instead of resolving it for every UDP packet\n    being written.\n\nIt's strongly recommended you use the DNS resolver.\n\nThe DNS resolver will resolve its DNS lookup based on the\n    configured `timeToLive`. i.e. it caches the DNS host for\n    at least that amount of time.\n\nThe DNS resolver takes a `seedIP` value, this is used when\n    it cannot resolve DNS due to DNS failures and will fallback\n    to the static IP you gave it.\n\nThe DNS resolver retries DNS lookups on DNS failures based on\n    the `backoffSettings` you supply.\n\nThe `timeToLive` field defaults to five minutes (in milliseconds)\nThe `seedIP` field has no default.\nThe `backoffSettings.maxDelay` field defaults to `Infinity`\nThe `backoffSettings.minDelay` field defaults to `500` milliseconds\nThe `backoffSettings.retries` field defaults to `10` retries\nThe `backoffSettings.factor` field defaults to `2`.\n\n### `options.isDisabled`\n\n`isDisabled` is an optional predicate function. You can pass in\n    a predicate function that allows you to disabled the statsd\n    client at run time.\n\nWhen this predicate function returns `true` the `EphemeralSocket`\n    will stop writing to the statsd UDP server.\n\n### Counting stuff\n\nCounters are supported, both as raw `.counter(metric, delta)` and with the\nshortcuts `.increment(metric, [delta=1])` and `.decrement(metric, [delta=-1])`:\n\n    sdc.increment('systemname.subsystem.value'); // Increment by one\n\tsdc.decrement('systemname.subsystem.value', -10); // Decrement by 10\n\tsdc.counter('systemname.subsystem.value, 100); // Indrement by 100\n\n### Gauges\n\nSends an arbitrary number to the back-end:\n\n\tsdc.gauge('what.you.gauge', 100);\n\n### Delays\n\nKeep track of how fast (or slow) your stuff is:\n\n\tvar start = new Date();\n\tsetTimeout(function () {\n\t\t\tsdc.timing('random.timeout', start);\n\t}, 100 * Math.random());\n\nIf it is given a `Date`, it will calculate the difference, and anything else\nwill be passed straight through.\n\nAnd don't let the name (or nifty interface) fool you - it can measure any kind\nof number, where you want to see the distribution (content lengths, list items,\nquery sizes, ...)\n\n### Stopping gracefully\n\nBy default, the socket is closed if it hasn't been used for a second (see\n`socket_timeout` in the init-options), but it can also be force-closed with\n`.close()`:\n\n\tvar start = new Date();\n\tsetTimeout(function () {\n\t\tsdc.timing('random.timeout', start); // 2 - implicitly re-creates socket.\n\t\tsdc.close(); // 3 - Closes socket after last use.\n\t}, 100 * Math.random());\n    sdc.close(); // 1 - Closes socket early.\n\nThe call is idempotent, so you can call it \"just to be sure\".
