Warn\n## A JSHint configuration tool.\n[![Build Status](https://secure.travis-ci.org/fivetanley/warn.js.png)](http://travis-ci.org/fivetanley/warn.js)\n\n**NOTE: This project is not being actively maintained. It is not up to\ndate with all the JSHint options. I had no idea people were still using\nthis and found it useful. If you are interested in maintaining the\nproject, open an issue or ping me on twitter (@fivetanley). Thanks!**\n\n**Warn** makes it easy to create and reuse [JSHint](https://github.com/jshint/node-jshint) configuration files. You can even toggle settings on the fly.\n\n`Warn.js` can generate *predefined globals* ( so JSHint won't yell at you because you're using them because they haven't been defined yet) for the following projects:\n\n 1. Agility\n 2. Angular\n 3. Backbone\n 4. Ember\n 5. Ext.js\n 6. Knockout\n 7. Knockback\n 8. RequireJS\n 9. Spine.js\n 10. Underscore\n 11. YUI\n\n`Warn` also supports the following test suite's globals:\n\n 1. Buster\n 2. Chai (TDD and BDD style )\n 3. Expect.js\n 4. Hiro\n 5. Jasmine\n 6. Mocha (All styles / interfaces)\n 7. QUnit\n 8. Sinon\n 9. Vows\n\nFirst, install JSHint if you haven't so already:\n\n`npm install -g jshint`\n\nThe `-g` flag installs jshint globally so you can use it as a command line tool. ( *Note: You might need to use sudo!* )\n\nLast, install `warn.js`:\n\n`npm install -g warn`\n\n## Usage guide\n\n```\nUsage: warn.js [options]\n\n Options:\n\n -h, --help output usage information\n -V, --version output the version number\n -l, --load <file> Load a JSHint json configuration file\n -o, --output <file> Specify the output file to save new configuration file. Default [.jshintrc]\n -e, --enable <items> Enable options or predefined globals ( like browser, node, jquery, backbone)\n -d, --disable <items> Disable options or predefined globals ( like browser, node, jquery, backbone)\n -m, --maxerr <number> Set the number of maximum errors for JSHint to report before quitting.\n -i, --indent Specify indentation\n```\n### Reading / Writing configuration files\n\nYou can `load` in a previous config (but only if it's `JSON` format) using the `--load -l` flag. `Warn` will use those values before enabling/disabling settings.\n\nIf there is a `.jshintrc` file in the current working directory, `Warn` will load it automatically.\n\nUse the `--output -o` option to tell Warn.js where to write the configuration file. If `-o` is not passed to `Warn`, then the configuration will be written to `.jshintrc` in the current working directory.\n\n\n### Configuring JSHint options\n\nMost of the values `JSHint` reads in are `Boolean` values ( `true`/`false` ), so use `--enable -e` or `--disable -d` accordingly:\n\n`warn.js --enable backbone`\n\n`Warn` will automatically enable globals for projects that require other projects globals ( for instance, `Backbone` requires `Underscore`'s `_` and `jQuery`'s `$` ). **NOTE**: If `JSHint` already has a predefined global, Warn.js will enable/disable that one (e.g. `jquery` ).\n\nIf you want to enable/disable more than one option, **use commas**:\n\n`warn.js --enable jquery,backbone,ember,etc`\n\nIf Warn.js doesn't recognize a set of predefined globals passed to `--enable` or `--disable`, it will add the word to your config automatically.\n\n**NOTE** : `Warn` will enable options, *then* disable them. Disable always wins.\n\nSome values are `Number`s, and they have their own options:\n\n`warn.js --maxerr <maximum # of errors before jshint will stop reporting>`\n\n`warn.js --indent <number of spaces used for indentation>`\n\nThe rest of the things you can enable/disable are `Boolean` values, and affect how `JSHint` analyzes your code (like requiring you to use `hasOwnProperty` in a `for in` loop).\n\n## FAQ\n\n### How do I get my favorite project's globals in Warn?\n\nSimply fork this repository, and add your definition to `lib/CustomPredefs.js'. The format is like so:\n\n```\nmyproject = [ 'foo', 'bar', 'baz' ], // Use if project doesn't import other project's globals\nmyproject2 = {\n\tdeps: [ 'foo' ], // list Array of dependencies here.\n\tdict: [ 'myGlobal' ] // adds a list of words that JSHint will ignore\n}\n```\n\n**Make sure the tests still pass!**\n\n`grunt build`\n\n### What are the name of the options I can enable and disable?\n\nThe below settings are taken from the [node-jshint](https://github.com/jshint/jshint-node/) project and will work when passed to `--enable` or `--disable`.\n\n```\n// Defaults as of jshint edition 2011-04-16\n\n{\n // If the scan should stop on first error.\n \"passfail\": false,\n // Maximum errors before stopping.\n \"maxerr\": 50,\n\n\n // Predefined globals\n\n // If the standard browser globals should be predefined.\n \"browser\": false,\n // If the Node.js environment globals should be predefined.\n \"node\": false,\n // If the Rhino environment globals should be predefined.\n \"rhino\": false,\n // If CouchDB globals should be predefined.\n \"couch\": false,\n // If the Windows Scripting Host environment globals should be predefined.\n \"wsh\": false,\n\n // If jQuery globals should be predefined.\n \"jquery\": false,\n // If Prototype and Scriptaculous globals should be predefined.\n \"prototypejs\": false,\n // If MooTools globals should be predefined.\n \"mootools\": false,\n // If Dojo Toolkit globals should be predefined.\n \"dojo\": false,\n\n // Custom predefined globals.\n \"predef\": [],\n\n\n // Development\n\n // If debugger statements should be allowed.\n \"debug\": false,\n // If logging globals should be predefined (console, alert, etc.).\n \"devel\": false,\n\n\n // ECMAScript 5\n\n // If ES5 syntax should be allowed.\n \"es5\": false,\n // Require the \"use strict\"; pragma.\n \"strict\": false,\n // If global \"use strict\"; should be allowed (also enables strict).\n \"globalstrict\": false,\n\n\n // The Good Parts\n\n // If automatic semicolon insertion should be tolerated.\n \"asi\": false,\n // If line breaks should not be checked, e.g. `return [\\n] x`.\n \"laxbreak\": false,\n // If bitwise operators (&, |, ^, etc.) should not be allowed.\n \"bitwise\": false,\n // If assignments inside if, for and while should be allowed.
