are designed for WebGL, not WebGPU\n  * WebGPU uses clip space Z 0 to 1, vs WebGL -1 to 1.  // b is number[]\n\nconst f32 = new Float32Array(2);\nconst x = vec2d.add([1, 2], [3, 4]);          // x is number[]\nconst y = vec2d.add([1, 2], [3, 4], f32);     // y is Float32Array\n```\n\netc...\n\nNote: You're unlikely to need any thing except `mat3`, `mat4`, `quat`,\n`vec2`, `vec3`, and `vec4` but, there are 3 sets of functions, \neach one returning a different default\n\n```ts\nmat4.identity()   // returns Float32Array\nmat4d.identity()  // returns Float64Array\nmat4n.identity()  // returns number[]\n```\n\nSimilarly there's `mat3d`, `mat3n`, `quatd`, `quatn`,\n`vec2d`, `vec2n`, `vec3d`, `vec3n`, `vec4d`, `vec4n`.\n\nJust to be clear, `identity`, like most functions, takes a destination so\n\n```ts\nconst f32 = new Float32Array(16);\nconst f64 = new Float64Array(16);\nconst arr = new Array<number>(16).fill(0);\n\nmat4.identity()      // returns Float32Array\nmat4.identity(f32)   // returns Float32Array (f32)\nmat4.identity(f64)   // returns Float64Array (f64)\nmat4.identity(arr)   // returns number[] (arr)\n\nmat4d.identity()     // returns Float64Array\nmat4d.identity(f32)  // returns Float32Array (f32)\nmat4d.identity(f64)  // returns Float64Array (f64)\nmat4d.identity(arr)  // returns number[] (arr)\n\nmat4n.identity()     // returns number[]\nmat4n.identity(f32)  // returns Float32Array (f32)\nmat4n.identity(f64)  // returns Float64Array (f64)\nmat4n.identity(arr)  // returns number[] (arr)\n```\n\nThe only difference between the sets of functions is what type they default to returning.\n\n## Notes\n\n[`mat4.perspective`](https://wgpu-matrix.org/docs/functions/mat4.perspective.html),\n[`mat4.ortho`](https://wgpu-matrix.org/docs/functions/mat4.ortho.html), and\n[`mat4.frustum`](https://wgpu-matrix.org/docs/functions/mat4.frustum.html)\nall return matrices with Z clip space from 0 to 1 (unlike most WebGL matrix libraries which return -1 to 1)\n\n[`mat4.create`](https://wgpu-matrix.org/docs/functions/mat4.create.html) makes an all zero matrix if passed no parameters.\nIf you want an identity matrix call `mat4.identity`\n\n## Important!\n\n`mat3` uses the space of 12 elements\n\n```js\n// a mat3\n[\n  xx, xy, xz, ?\n  yx, yy, yz, ?\n  zx, zy, zz, ?\n]\n```\n\nThis is because WebGPU requires mat3s to be in this format and since\nthis library is for WebGPU it makes sense to match so you can manipulate\nmat3s in TypeArrays directly.\n\n`vec3` in this library uses 3 floats per but be aware that an array of\n`vec3` in a Uniform Block or other structure in WGSL, each vec3 is\npadded to 4 floats! In other words, if you declare\n\n```\nstruct Foo {\n  bar: vec3<f32>[3];\n};\n```\n\nthen bar[0] is at byte offset 0, bar[1] at byte offset 16, bar[2] at byte offset 32.\n\nSee [the WGSL spec on alignment and size](https://www.w3.org/TR/WGSL/#alignment-and-size).\n\n## Columns vs Rows\n\nWebGPU follows the same conventions as OpenGL, Vulkan, Metal for matrices. Some people call this \"column major\". The issue is the columns of\na traditional \"math\" matrix are stored as rows when declaring a matrix in code.\n\n```js\n[\n  x1, x2, x3, x4,  // <- column 0\n  y1, y2, y3, y4,  // <- column 1\n  z1, z2, z3, z4,  // <- column 2\n  w1, w2, w3, w4,  // <- column 3\n]\n```\n\nTo put it another way, the translation vector is in elements 12, 13, 14\n\n```js\n[\n  xx, xy, xz, 0,  // <- x-axis\n  yx, yy, yz, 0,  // <- y-axis\n  zx, zy, zz, 0,  // <- z-axis\n  tx, ty, tz, 1,  // <- translation\n]\n```\n\nThis issue has confused programmers since at least the early 90s 😌\n\n## Performance vs Convenience\n\nMost functions take an optional destination as the last argument.\nIf you don't supply it, a new one (vector, matrix) will be created\nfor you.\n\n```js\n// convenient usage\n\nconst persp = mat4.perspective(fov, aspect, near, far);\nconst camera = mat4.lookAt(eye, target, up);\nconst view = mat4.inverse(camera);\n```\n\n```js\n// performant usage\n\n// at init time\nconst persp = mat4.create();\nconst camera = mat4.create();\nconst view = mat4.create();\n\n// at usage time\nmat4.perspective(fov, aspect, near, far, persp);\nmat4.lookAt(eye, target, up, camera);\nmat4.inverse(camera, view);\n```\n\nFor me, most of the stuff I do in WebGPU, the supposed performance I might lose\nfrom using the convenient style is so small as to be unmeasurable. I'd prefer to\nstay convenient and then, if and only if I find a performance issue, then I\nmight bother to switch to the performant style.\n\nAs the saying goes [*premature optimization is the root of all evil.*](https://softwareengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/80084/is-premature-optimization-really-the-root-of-all-evil) 😉\n\n## Migration\n\n### 2.x -> 3.x\n\nIn JavaScript there should be no difference in the API except for the removable of `setDefaultType`.\n\nIn TypeScript, 3.x should mostly be type compatible with 2.x. \n3.x is an attempt to fix the casting that was necessary in 2.x.\n\n```js\n// 2.x\ndevice.queue.writeData(buffer, 0, mat4.identity() as Float32Array);  // sadness! 😭\n\n// 3.x\ndevice.queue.writeData(buffer, 0, mat4.identity());  // Yay! 🎉\n```\n\nIn TypeScript the differences are as follows\n\n#### Functions have a default type but return what is passed to them as the dst.\n\nIn 3.x each function has a default type but if you pass it\na destination it returns the type of the destination\n\n```ts\nmat4.identity()                       // returns Float32Array\nmat4.identity(new Float32Array(16));  // returns Float32Array\nmat4.identity(new Float64Array(16));  // returns Float64Array\nmat4.identity(new Array(16));         // returns number[]\n```\n\n#### Types are specific\n\n```ts\nconst a: Mat4 = ...;    // a = Float32Array\nconst b: Mat4d = ...;   // b = Float64Array\nconst c: Mat4n = ...;   // c = number[]\n```\n\nThis is means code like this\n\n```ts\nconst position: Mat4 = [10, 20, 30];\n```\n\nNo longer works because `Mat4` is a `Float32Array`.\n\n**BUT, functions take any of the normal types as an argument just like they used to**\n\n```js\nconst position = [10, 20, 30];          // number[]\nconst target = vec3.create(1, 2, 3);    // Float32Array\nconst up = new Float64Array([0, 1, 0]); // Float64Array\n\n// Works fine, even those types are different, just like 2.x did\nconst view = mat4.lookAt(position, target, up);  // Float32Array\n```\n\nIf you really want types for each concrete type there's\n\n* `Float32Array` types: `Mat3`, `Mat4`, `Quat`, `Vec2`, `Vec3`, `Vec4`\n* `Float64Array` types: `Mat3d`, `Mat4d`, `Quatd`, `Vec2d`, `Vec3d`, `Vec4d`,\n* `number[]` types: `Mat3n`, `Mat4n`, `Quatn`, `Vec2n`, `Vec3n`, `Vec4n`\n\n#### There are 3 sets of functions, each one returning a different default\n\n```ts\nmat4.identity()   // returns Float32Array\nmat4d.identity()  // returns Float64Array\nmat4n.identity()  // returns number[]\n```\n\nSimilarly there's `mat3d`, `mat3n`, `quatd`, `quatn`,\n`vec2d`, `vec2n`, `vec3d`, `vec3n`, `vec4d`, `vec4n`.\n\n**Note: that in general you're unlikely to need any of these.
